Chapter 11

We drove to the library, with Jenkins asking stupid questions about Nyx's car.

"How are you supposed to chase demons through a forest in this thing?"

"I'm not." Nyx growled. "If I wanted to chase someone I'd get out. I run faster on my own." Nyx retorted.

"But you need a vehicle that can keep up with you."

"There is no vehicle that can keep up with me. I'm a demon." She rolled her eyes.

"So then how'd you get the money for this car?" Jenkins raised an eyebrow. Lyall and I exchange glances from the back seat, waiting for the two of them to start throwing punches.

Nyx rolled her eyes. "I never lied. My mother is a doctor, and my father is a lawyer." She explained. "They make a ass load of money and give most of it to me."

"You're mother is a succubus right?" Jenkins asked.

"Actually my dad is an incubus." Nyx explained. "My mother is a vampire. She uses her blood to heal patients with no other chance for survival. My father is loyal and hasn't have sex with anyone else since they met. I know because I asked." Nyx explained. "And because mom can read his mind if he cheated."

"I met them before." I added. "Once they get out of work their ties come off and their really laid back and calm. They're really nice people."

I could see Nyx smile even though she was looking at the road. I didn't lie though. Her parents were awesome. They were funny as hell but also really down to earth. They played Cards Against Humanity with us and we did shots one night when I slept over. They said I could only drink if I gave them my car keys and I spent the night. That was literally the best night ever.

We pulled up to the library and everyone got out. Jenkins crossed his arms over his chest like he was unamused. "So who are we looking for?" He asked.

"Iodite." Nyx answered.

"Who is that?" I asked.

"A librarian." Lyall shrugged.

"I'm not sure. But that's what Anikke said." Nyx answered.

"Let's just hurry up." Jenkins sighed and headed into the building before walking up to the librarian with us following.

The woman looked up, raising her glasses from the bridge if her nose. "Can I help you?"

"We're looking for Iodite." He said, putting his hands on the counter as he glared at her.

The woman looked at him a bit confused before sighing. "If you're with the guild I can't help you." The woman answered. "I'm sorry but she-"

"We were sent by Anikke Stargazer." Nyx said. "Could you make an exception just this once?"

"Your persuasion doesn't work I'm afraid." The woman explained.

"Immune to magic?" Nyx questioned.

"Indeed. I'll have to ask you to leave." She motioned to the door.

"Fine." Nyx sighed deeply. "My name is Nyx Kokinos. Or if you want to be specific to my lineage-" she held up her right hand. "Nox Daybreaker."

The woman's eyes widened and she took a step back before swallowing the rock in her throat. She then pointed a shaky hand towards the library. "She usually spends her time in the fiction section." She explained.

"Thank you very much." Nyx bowed her head before heading off to go look. The rest of us followed in shock.

"You're a Daybreaker?" I asked.
