Surprisingly, Nyx had left her car in the parking lot. It was smart considering if she had taken it, the hunters would have been able to track her with it, plus I don't think you need a car when you can fly.
As I drove back to my house in her car, all the pieces really fell into play. Her laziness and athleticism was attributed to her being undead. Her needs were of the same. All the signs were there of her being either vampire or succubi, but because of the two of them, we never even thought that she could be a half breed of both. And of course not the rarest half breed you could be.
Most hybrid children just die because of the differences between the two demons. Usually dead organs are no good for a living body.
But sometimes a child can be born with the perfect combination of the two sets of genes. A perfect child with the strengths of both and the weaknesses of neither.
That is a Baital. The rarest kind of hybrid besides the Werewolf vampire. After all, a succubus is still a living creature. So having a half dead child, means its a dead child. It's either undead to begin with, or its dead soon.
It was honestly quite sad. If Nyx's parents had had her on the first try, I would have been impressed. The chances of having the child come out living the first time, are slim to none. Her parents must have had to keep trying over and over to finally have Nyx come out alive.
Alive... Nyx was alive. She had a beating heart and she breathed...
No. Her stupid triple ring with the dial for the middle ring. It was a seal that made her human. It made her heart beat in her chest and her blood run in her body. She was dead. The whole time and I didn't notice. After living with her for four years, I never knew she was a demon.
How could I have been so stupid!?
She was just as ignorant to me being a Hunter. She didn't know. I kept it from her, and I did it well. She was probably originally drawn to me because she couldn't read my mind. But what made her stop trying to figure me out?
I'm not an idiotic book character. I know what she was about to say in the theater.
As a hunter I'm supposed to think she was only trying to manipulate me into allowing her to get close so she could bite me and drink my blood.
But I knew Nyx. She was never after my blood or my body. She wanted my touch, and my kindness. She wanted me to be happy because it was the only way she ever could.
The difference between monsters and demons is that monsters are animals. They act solely on instinct. A demon possesses thought, and sentience. They are able to think and act on reaction and coherent thought. They can have personalities, and most importantly they are capable of emotion.
Nyx was a demon, not a monster. And she had created a relationship with me that could not be overlooked because of stupid cameras, even if it did completely point to her being the culprit.
I had to trust her, because I knew deep down, if I was the one being accused, she would do it for me.
I pulled into the driveway and got out of the car and stepped into the house. I closed the door behind me and sighed. As soon as I flicked the light on I was lifted by my shirt and slammed into the door.
"You are going to listen and I'm going to talk understand!?" Nyx snapped as she held my feet a foot off the ground. Her eyes no longer their normal color, but now her irises were glowing a deep, dark shade of purple.
"Nyx I-"
"I said I was going to talk!" She snarled back. "I don't care what they told you! You can't just believe them! You know I wouldn't kill people! I've spent my whole life trying to prove to the Hunters that I'm not working for the Daybreakers! I'm not! I have no connection with my ancestors, only my mother and father who are just trying to get by! They want to live side by side with the humans and so do I! I don't want to hurt anyone and I know- I know, I know- I haven't hurt anyone! Even if I was working for Dominique I wouldn't have been able to blow that building with you on top! I can't hurt you! I'd rather kill people than hurt you!"
