Christina looks at the dead body of her fiancé with her hands clasped over her open mouth. She doesn't say a word. She looks at Will with tears rolling down her dark eyes.
Everything is so quiet that you can here a pin drop. No one moves a muscle. Christina is frozen in her position. I myself feel too shocked to move. Who killed Will? Why was he killed?
I didn't even know him, but it felt bad to see Christina's fiancé.
"Christina," Tris says in a soothing voice, placing her hand on her arm.
Christina jerks Tris' hand away and turns around. She runs down the hallway, sobbing. Christina is one person I never expected to see crying.
Tris goes after her ,"Christina!"I look at the dead body of the person called Will, whom I didn't even know. I feel exhausted; it had been an eventful day. I really want to catch some sleep but I know now is not the time.
Zeke goes over to Will and places his fingers on his wrist to check his pulse. He looks up at me and Shauna, and shakes his head.
"Now what do we do?" I ask, stupidly enough.
"You know better, Four," Shauna says ,"You're the most experienced in the 'dead bodies' department, being the Dauntless instructor and all."
"So what are you? Amity?"
"I used the phrase 'most experienced' not 'best'."
"We need to take his body," Zeke says in a serious tone,"I don't know why, but I have a feeling that this Cara thing and Will's murder are related."
"I wouldn't be surprised." I say. After what seems like an eternity, Christina and Tris come back. Christina's eyes are bloodshot and puffy. She's been crying, and it's not unnatural.
"Christina, are you okay?" Zeke asks.
"Of course she's not, Zeke," Tris snaps.
"Uhmm...." Zeke says, feeling stupid.
"Where....where is...." Christina cringes ,"Will?"
"He..." I say," We took him to the hospital."
"What happened to him?" She asks hopefully. Of course I have to be the one to do the dirty job of telling her that her fiancé is dead.
"I'm sorry," I look down at my shoes.
Tears cascade down her red cheeks, and I can see that the brave, bold Christina I knew had vanished away, even if temporarily, by the death of the person she loved and was ready to marry.
"It's gonna be fine. It will hurt for some time but then it'll be fine." Shauna says.
"No! It's never going to be fine! Maybe I wasn't meant to get married or I wasn't created for love! Any person I fall in love with, ends up dying," she breaks down into tears once again.
"Shh...Christina, be brave," Tris says in a soothing voice as she rubs her hand over Christina's shoulder. Her sobs are reduced to sniffs and she says,"It'll be good for you guys to go. I'll.. I'll go home too. You really don't n-need to-"
"You guys go home," Tris suggests,"I'll stay with her."
"Tris, you should also go."
"No. Even you have helped me to get through hard times. Why shan't I help you? You guys go, now."
"Even I'll stay," Shauna offers.
"No, you don't need to Shauna." Christina says,"You really don't need to take the trouble."
"It's not trouble, really." Shauna replies.
"Don't do that. I know you have work. It's-it's okay. You don't need to. Please. I insist." Christina pleads.
Shauna looks as if she doesn't know what to do.
"It's okay, Shauna. Let them talk for sometime. You can join them later," Zeke says.
"Yes, that'll do."
Shauna nods, still unconvinced.I'm exhausted. My eyelids feel heavy and threaten to droop every now and then. We reach home within a few minutes and I longingly crawl into bed. I know it'll be a few hours before Tris comes home, so I decide to catch a nap. After all, no best friend consoles her friend within minutes, on a matter as big as this.
I close my eyes, willing myself to sleep, but somehow sleep seems to be out of reach. I try to sleep, but to no avail. I close my eyes harder, trying my best to think of things that'll make me feel drowsy. It's been an eventful day and I don't want to not get enough of sleep, because it's precious to me.
Finally, failing hundreds of attempts to sleep, I get up and check my phone. There's a text from Tris.
Tris- I'll come home late. Need to console Christina. Ttyl.
I reply an Okay, my hands flying in the keypad. I lay down on the bed, looking up at the ceiling.Somehow, whenever I think of Will, he seems very familiar. I know him, I am sure, even though I had never actually met him before. Somehow my brain wasn't able to pinpoint who he was.
A pang of realisation struck me, as I sat up straight. I knew him. I had met him years ago. We were still on dauntless then, and I had just gotten a hint about the attack on Abnegation from Evelyn. She had told me about him. His identity had remained a secret because if it was exposed, people would hunt him down and kill him.
He was Jeanine's older son. Will Matthews.
