I wake up in a room I don't recognise. The walls are blue and it has wooden flooring. My eyes are heavy and my head aches. Something doesn't feel right. I don't even know why I am here.
Then, the memories of the Tortiro Bar come flooding back to me. What exactly happened? Where is Tris? What is going on? Who did this to us?A quiver of pain passes through my forehead. I try to lift my hand to my forehead. Something keeps my hand bound to the place where it is. I look down to see my hand tied to the armrest of the chair. Great, so now I'm bound. I run my gaze around, my eyes hungry to see Tris fine. She's nowhere in sight. I squirm in the chair and yell. My voice is muffled my a cloth that keeps me gagged, So now I sound like a dying seal.
"Mmph!"
"Well, well." A voice says.
The voice is a harsh and raspy one which most probably belongs to a huge man. His tone is lined with bitterness and envy and something I can't quite tell. Maybe it's.....hatred.
"Tobias," the voice continues. I can't see the person. He probably is behind me, because I can't even sense the source of the voice,"How are you?"
I jerk up on hearing my name. Not many people know my real name, not even my friends. It's just a few of them whom I have known forever, like Tris and Zeke-he chooses to call me Four anyway.I attempt to say who are you but it comes out like,"Mmph mmm humph?"
"Mmph humph?" The voice laughs, imitating my try of asking a question.
I feel irritated now. Where's Tris? I'm worried about her, about her safety. Is she okay? Why am I here? Why have these people captured us?
"Mmmmph!! Mmmph, humm!" I say, struggling to free myself.
The person laughs like a villain. He then brings his hand in front of my mouth and pulls out the gag. I shudder. He still hasn't come into my view. I don't know who he is, but when I get to know, he's going to be so dead.
"Aargh!" I yell ,"Who are you?!"
"I am," the person comes in front on my so I can see him. I know him. Those blond hair, those watery grey eyes, the same fox like features, every thing is so similar. Everything but his smile. His smile is so evil, as if it was hereditary because no person can have such a wicked smile for sure. I know this person. From what I can guess, he's about twenty. He continues,"your worst nightmare."A gasp escapes my mouth. He's someone I was friends with. I was friends with before the stack of Abnegation. He used to be my best friend, but now is my worst enemy.
"You.." I say through gritted teeth.
"Yes, me, Tobias."*Flashback*
"Tobias, catch me!" He said, as he ran towards the woods.
"I'm coming after you," I shout. I run fast. Sprinting towards the woods, I look around. Birds are chirping and everything is so calm. The serenity of the forest doesn't seem astounding at all, because I'm Abnegation. It's beauty, however, is breathtaking.Everything in our lives is calm. There is no need to worry. Everything is lovely, except my father, who beats me practically everyday. I'm desperate to turn sixteen so that I can choose another faction and go far, far away from Marcus. My mother also died a few months ago, and Pete was my only support. My father acts to be grieving which is unlikely because he didn't look sad. Why would he, he was a man with no emotions. If he can beat his own son, why would he be sad on his wife's death?
"Pete! I am coming, so hide!" I yell.
There's no response. In a distance I hear a twig crack. I turn around and run in that direction, sure that Pete is there. Upon reaching there, I see no one.
"You can't hide from me, Peteese!" I taunt him. No other sound except the chirping of birds and cracking of twigs can be heard. Each time I follow the sound of twigs cracking, I see no one. After sprinting for ages, I finally stop, not having seen Pete's face for so long.
"Come out, Pete. You win," I sigh in defeat.
I hear the crumpling of leaves and cracking of twigs from the nearby bushes. I look up from my panting chest and see a figure covered in grey clothes. Pete.
"Where were you hiding?" I ask.
He opens his mouth to say something but nothing comes out. He looks at me, horrified, his forehead lined with sweat. His hair stuck to his head with the sweat. His face depicts a sense of urgency. I look at him and say,"What happened?"
"There..my...it's..."He stammers.
"What happened Pete?" I ask, concerned. Pete was born in Abnegation but was cut out for dauntless, he's the bravest person I have ever met. But seeing him that scared, I can tell something is wrong. Since his mother ran away from the fringe, he had broken from inside, knowing that the part of his family that kept it together was no longer there with him. His older brother went on to choose Erudite last year, so all that remains of his family is his father and himself.
"I saw....my...mother.." He says, panting hard.
"Your mother? That's not possible. She's factionless now. She won't be in Abnegation now.
"Erudite..she was in...Erudite."
"No," I tell him, knowing that he feels so broken right now,"She couldn't possibly be."
"No. She was there."The next day when I went to his house, I found his father pulling out his hair in despair. He looked so tired.
I asked him about Pete.
"He ran away," is what his father said. It made me shudder."Pete," I say, shocked ,"You're here? I thought you... What's going on?"
Suddenly a surge of anger hits me. He kidnapped Tris and me? The Pete I knew wasn't this kind of a person. He was gentle and nice, not this kind of monstrous person.
"You're not Pete."
"You can see for yourself."
I struggle to get out of my chair but end up moving my chair a few inches. My wrists are bracelets with bruises caused by the ropes. There is a dull ache in my wrists but I ignore it. When I look down at my wrists, I see that they a bleeding slightly.
"You have a long time to spend here. Don't hurt yourself that early."
"Take this out! Where's Tris? Where did you take her?! Ugh!" I continue squirming in my chair. I feel frustrated.
"Pete! TAKE THIS OFF, YOU..."
"Oh, good ol' Tobias!" He says with a hearty laugh. I don't know how a person can laugh heartily on such an occasion. Pete has always been able to amuse me, but today he's shocking me."Maybe you can stay here till you learn some manners. Then I get that girl out and...." A wicked smile appears on his face. I don't know what to make of this. But if he lays a finger on Tris, he is going to regret it.
"Why are you behaving like this? You're not the Pete I knew."
"People change when times change, Tobias," he comes close to me, his face inches from my head. His green eyes have a majestic look and I can tell that they are digging into my skin. But I look back at him with a death stare and try to keep a bitter expression. But it isn't easy, because after all he was a friend.
"Get away from her!" I shout at the top of my voice.I hear a scream from another room. I freeze in my position and Pete gives me a wicked look. The scream is distant but I can tell who it is. And I freak out.
Tris.
