A few hours later Amber was safe, not losing anymore blood and had a well
tied bandage on her leg. She wanted to get up and try to walk, just to
see if she was able, but Ryan didn't want her to. He didn't want her to
get hurt. It was very late now and all Ryan was doing was looking after
her. He had liked Amber since year 7 but had been secretly scared to
tell her. Now, as her newfound hero, doctor and her only protector, he
felt like he could show her how much he liked her. They didn't have long
left on earth. They were in the same college and in all the same
studies. They were for the most part amicable with each other in college
but they hadn't been too friendly back in secondary school and she had
hardly known him at all in primary because she arrived to his primary
school in year 4, and had only ever really seen him in passing. She
found herself watching him now, seeing him with what felt like fresh
eyes for the first time. She was really tired now. She finished a cup of
soup and her eyes started closing. Very slowly, she was falling asleep
on the couch. She couldn't fight the sleepiness anymore and cuddled up
into the cushions on the sofa and fell asleep. Ryan came downstairs and
found her asleep so he got a blanket and lay it gently over her and then
kissed her forehead gently. He turned out the light and tiptoed quietly
upstairs to his room where he, too, went to sleep.
