Why did she tell me that? Now I'm going to be stressing over something I may or may not have. She could tell I looked worried.

"I'm sorry," She coughed heavily. Her coughs were only getting worse. " I thought you needed to know." She finished.

I understood her reasoning though. I just wish she wouldn't have to go out like this. I find it crazy that she can be so strong sometimes, but go at her weakest.

She turned her head and slowly closed her eyes.

“Ma," I called her. "Wake up."  I called again shaking her gently.

Her eyes opened again as if she had awakened from a deep sleep. She handed me a packaging envelope out of her purse that felt heavy.

" Take this," She instructed.

"What is it?" I ask.

She coughed, "Open it."

I opened the envelope, taking out the letter that was sticking out first. I read our silently.

I looked inside the envelope. There was at least $300 inside. There was one more item that came in a smaller envelope, a pair of keys that belonged to a Nissan.

“ Thank you, ma!" I squealed loudly.

She cleared her throat and coughed a few times, “Boy, if you don't hush with all that noise! Don't nobody want to hear all that. ” She said as she normally would.

I laughed, “Thank you," I say atleast trying to be happy. “ What am I supposed to do with a car now? My birthday is a month away. ”

“Just leave it in the garage,” She said.

We continued to talk for hours. We would go from serious conversations to some nonsense. Someone knocked on the door interrupting our conversations.

My mom welcomed the person in, not a person everyone. I let everyone talk with her as I went down to the cafeteria. I looked around at the overpriced food.

I bought a small bag of 50 cent chips. I finished them before I got back up to the third floor. I'm exhausted all, all I need is some rest.

I walked in Kierra was the last one there talking to my mom. I could tell by her facial expression she wasn't trying to hear nothing Kierra had to say. I smiled slightly.

Kierra gave us both hugs before leaving with my aunt.

“ I'm glad I had a boy, I couldn't deal with you. ” I heard my mom says chuckling.

I shook my head laughing, “ You're a mess.”

The room grew silent. It wasn't a awkward silence, it was more of a long pause.

“Where's your father?” She asked.

I yawned, “ I think I saw him outside in the waiting room.”

“Tell him to come here. ” She said.

I nodded. I look around to see him. I was right he was in the waiting room. He was hugged up on some girl.

I cleared my throat, “Ma wants to see you. ”

I couldn't look at his ass.

“ Tell her I said give me a couple of minutes. ” He said continuing what he was previously doing.

“She said now.” I say.

He went to her room.

“So how long have you known my dad? ” I ask.
