CHAPTER 1
It was a hot sunny day; it was the month of May so summer was just starting. Today was my last day at Willow High school, I was a sophomore. I had lived in Chicago all my sixteen years of life. My family decide to move to Springfield, Missouri. I had no choice but to go along with them. Don't get me wrong I love my family, but I didn't want to leave all my friends behind. We had already packed all our stuff so we would be ready to leave once school was out.
I remember when I was little I couldn't wait for the last day of school for the final bell to ring, but today I didn't want the final bell to ring. It was 2:30 and school was out at 3:00, so that meant I only had 30 minutes left before I had to say good bye to all my friends, I hated goodbyes.
All of my friends knew that I was moving. Kristen my best friend since kindergarten cried when I first told her I was moving....After she was done with crying she said to me "Andy, how I'm I going to survive the rest of high school without you. My name is Andrea but for short people call me Andy. I told her "I don't want to move but I can't just stay here by myself who would I live with huh." This gave her the crazy idea that I could live with her and her parents. So throughout the few months that I had left she tried to convince my mom and her parents to let me stay. Of course every time she asked the answer was no form my parents, her parents on the other hand told her it was fine....
My last class of the day was English; since it was the last day of school we didn't do anything but watch Avatar. I wasn't paying much attention to the movie I was stressed about the whole situation I was in. The bell was about to ring in about fifteen minutes our English teacher stopped the movie and the whole class said "Momma Gray that was the good part" Her name was Mrs. Gray but we all called her momma Gray. "I know it's the last day of school but I have something to say, and besides all of you have seen this movie before" She was right almost everybody had gone to see the movie, she continued with her announcement. "As all of you may know Andy is moving" I had no idea what she was going to say but I wanted her to stop already. She looked up to me "Andy, I have loved having you in class I'm going to miss you next year even though you weren't going to be in my class next year. I hope you visit or write to us, I know you will accomplish everything you set your mind too you're a strong, kind hearted girl. Don't let anyone tell you you're not good enough. Whenever you need someone to talk to momma Gray will be here." I had tears in my eyes and so did she. English had been my favorite class this year and she was my favorite teacher. "Thank you so much Mrs.. Momma Gray" I said back. It looked like she was done with what she had to say as she took something out of a white cabinet that was next to where she was standing. She took something out and was headed my way. All the other students in the class were just staring at us two. "Andy, I know you probably didn't want be to say all this in front of the whole class but I wanted too." She was right I hated to be the center of attention.
"It's ok" I said to her. "Good, cause I want to give you, go ahead open it" As I was about to open it Sam said something "Mrs. Gray why does Andrea gets something and the rest of us don't. Mr. Gray just rolled her eyes at her and told me to continue. Sam was so annoying almost 99.9% of the class couldn't stand her. As I tried again to open the box up I felt like everybody was looking at me. The box was colored purple, my favorite color, inside were many little things. "I talked to all your teachers and we all put something together. The ceramic monkey is from Mrs. Evens your ceramics teacher, the stuffed monkey is from Mrs. Hunt your biology teacher, the pillow with peace signs is from Ms. Garcia your social studies teacher, the French magazines are from Ms. West your French teacher, the miniature dome is from Mr. Scott your Geometry teacher, the purple scarf is from Mrs. Summers your child development teacher and the Cyrano d'bergerac book is from me. I know it was your favorite book." "Momma Gray you guys didn't have to do all this for me. Thank you so much." I said to her as I stood up to hug her we both had tears in our eyes. "Your welcome my dear. Inside you will find a letter that all of your teachers wrote for you. I hope you enjoy where you're moving and have funny." By the time we were done the bell had rang. "All right class have a wonderful summer have fun and be safe." She said to the class. We were all dismissed and before I left her class room I hugged her and thanked her one last time.
