Chapter 9
We were quite for a while. We were just looking at the stars.
“Have you decided where you want to go to college yet?”
“No, you?”
“No, what do you want to be?” I asked.
“I would like to be a doctor”
“Like your dad”
“Yeah, I guess, what do you want to be?”
“I don’t know yet, but I want to do something that has to do with helping kids” He was going to say something when his phone started ringing. He sat up and answered.
“Hello” he answered and waited for the other person to say something. Meanwhile I waited I ate another strawberry.
“Ok, yes, I’ll tell her, ok, bye” he said rolling his eyes with a smile.
“That was my mom” he said.
“Is something wrong?” I asked.
“No, just that my dad is getting here later tonight”
“Oh that’s nice, does that mean dinner is tomorrow”
“Yes, which means will have enough time to go with the others on Friday” he said.
“Oh yeah”
“We should get going, it’s getting late and I don’t want your dad to get mad” We got up and picked up the blanket and basket. We walked back to his car. We got in to his car and he started driving.
“I wish we didn’t have to go yet”
“I know me too” he said as he took my hand in his and locked our fingers together. “We still have at least an hour left together”
“Yeah, and well spend some time together with your family”
“Yeah, I know it’s not the same as you and me being alone”
“But at least it’s something” I said with a smile.
“Your right” he answered with a smile.
“You said you had practice tomorrow, right?”
“Yeah, but I’ll still be able to pick you up” he said with a smile.
“You sure?”
“Yeah, I’ll take you home right after school and make it right back in time for practice”
“Ok”
“Do you know how to drive?”
“No”
“You want to learn, I could teach you?”
“Really and what if I crash your car? What are you going to do?”
“It’s just a car no big deal, and besides that’s what insurance is for.”
“I don’t know”
“Come on, nothing bad could happen I’ll be there with you”
“Ok, I’ll do it,” I said with a smile. “But we take my grandma’s old car that’s in the garage”
“Fine” he said with a smile
“So exactly where are you going to teach me?”
“Ummm… let me think, the park”
“The park?”
“Yeah why not?”
“Well what if there are little kids playing around?”
