She sprinted to the courthouse, but he was nowhere to be seen.
She let out a breath she didn't even know she had been holding, "He's gone."
"Were you sposed' to meet him here or somthing?"
"Hours ago." She rolled her eyes.
Would he care? How long did he wait...? How long did it take for him to realize she wasn't coming. Did he realize, or did something happen? Did someone better come along, and steal him away? She stopped thinking about it. She'd call him later. They made their rounds, won prizes, ate funnel cake...then they parted. It had been the best day of her life. With, or without Jeremy.
"Hey," Arise said as they passed the theatre, "The Scorch Trials are playing tonight. Want to go you guys?"
"Yes!" Alice cried.
"I'll have to ask mom." Edward said responsibly.
"Yeah.." Lucas tried to include himself in the conversation.
Sure enough, four hours later, they four met in the same spot in front of The Star Theatre, and walked in.
After getting in, an unexpected guest joined them from behind. It was Alice's old friend Darby."Hey you guys!" She called out and took a seat behind the group.
"Oh..darby. Hey."
"Candy?" She offered.
Alice accepted.
They talked for half an hour before the lights dimmed, about anything and everything, and they finally turned their attention to the program, bursting unto sight.
An hour in, Meno had finally gotten the generator running, but with the first flash of light, brought a flash mob of the undead.Alice jumped back in her seat, and her hand grasped lucas'. She quickly pulled away and scooted toward Arise, but learned arise had her mind elsewhere.
She was leaning on Edward. Of course. Alice sighed."This is so a rip off of Resident Evil," Lucas whispered to Alice, and the tension escaped her. After two hours streaming, the movie faded into black and alice found her hand so close to the spot it once was, and longed for it to be. She sat up quickly, and they exited.
As she left the theatre, and said her goodbyes, she turned to the street she was supposed to walk down and meet her dad on, and there, in the glistening moonlight,
was Jeremy.
