So sorry for not updating lately! School is so frustrating😖
(Y/N)'s POV
Tonight Diana has decided that we are going to have a meeting about Rick and his behavior. I'm starting to get worried because he has acted up quite a bit lately. I just hope she doesn't think he should be exiled or something.
But the thing is, it's only for adults, so I can't be there to put in a good word for him. But I've figured out a plan. Behind Diana's house, where they are meeting, there are some thick hedges that I'm planning to hide in so I can see what happens during the meeting.
I finish my daily routine in the gardens, and walk into the shed to put away my gloves, sun hat, and trowel.
I enter the gardening shed and take in a deep, calming breath. Besides my room at the house, this is my favorite place in Alexandria. It smells like earth, and plants, and hard work. I place my gloves down on the shelf next to the box that contains the different types of seeds that we plant in the gardens. I toss my trowel into the bucket that had all of our hand-held tools in it. I set my hat on the hook on the inside of the door. I exit the shed, and shut the door behind me and turn around, looking at the setting sun. I walk over to the wooden bench in the garden and look around at my surroundings. The deep blues blend with the purples, pinks, oranges, and yellows, the color seeping onto the ground, cascading shadows over everything.
"It's beautiful isn't it?" A voice asks behind me. I jump with a gasp and put a hand over my heart, trying to calm it. Then I whip around, to see his smirking face.
"Carl! Don't just sneak up on me like that." I say with a laugh. He sits down next to me on the bench, earning a creak from the old wood.
"Heh sorry..." He said, rubbing the back of his neck anxiously, looking at the ground. Ok that's odd. Something's wrong.
"You ok Carl? You don't seem as happy as you usually are." I say with a concerned tone.
"Well... I guess I'm just scared. What if my dad gets exiled and has to leave? What will Judith and I do?" He says slowly, tears welling in his eyes more and more with every word. He looks to me, his sadness is overwhelming to me. I've never seen him cry before.
"Umm..." I hesitate for a moment, looking for the right words.
"I don't think that will happen. Carol, Maggie, Abraham, and the rest of your group won't let that happen. I won't let that happen. Rick has done, and will do more good than harm to the community. Diana has to keep him, because if she doesn't, she'll probably have a riot on her hands." I reply, the last sentence laced with a small giggle. I look into his eyes, his tears slowly fading. He takes his wrist and rubs his eyes until they are gone. The redness and puffiness lingers on his face though, but it's barely noticeable.
"Thanks (Y/N). I really needed that."
He murmurs looking me into my (eye color) eyes with his icy blue ones. His long brunette hair dangles over his forehead, framing his face perfectly. Weird, I haven't noticed that until now.
He looks into my eyes, but his orbs flick down to my lips for a split second, then back up to my eyes. I do the same, looking at his bubble gum pink lips then looking back into the deep blue abyss. He starts to lean in, and almost unintentionally, I do too. I can feel his warm, slow breath on my lips and down my neck, giving me goosebumps. When we are mere centimeters apart, I close my eyes and...
"Hey guys what're you doing out here?" Calls Ron, Jesse's son. Both Carl and I snap back to our original places, eyes wide, and faces flushed with embarrassment.
"Uhh.." Carl murmurs. Ron, his little brother Sam, and Enid come around the bench to face us.
"Woah, you guys look sunburnt! Where you both in the gardens all day?" He says sarcastically with a knowing smirk, putting his hands on his hips for emphasis. The corners of Enid's mouth pull at her lips, making a faint smirk. Sam, being the ignorant little child he is, chirped, "You know, my mom probably has some sunscreen you can both use........."
*SMACK*
We all faceplate simultaneously.
"Ugh, Sam go to the house." Said Ron, followed by a slow sigh.
"But mommy said I had to come out here for fresh air!" Complained Sam, his little blonde eyebrows scrunching together with frustration. It was actually really cute. Ron looked down now, looking at him sternly.
"Sam. House. Now." He stated slowly, as if explaining something to a caveman who didn't know English.
Sam let out a long exasperated sigh. Throwing his arms up in the air, he sighed, "FIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNEEE!" Then Enid speaks up, "Hey bud, I'll go with you. I know where your mom keeps the Nutella~"
Sam's eyes widen at her statement, and his face splits into a giant grin as he whips around and follows her down the brick path in the garden.
"Alright now that they are gone, what were you two doing out here?" Says Ron, folding his arms around his front and wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.
Both of our blushes deepen.... If that's even possible.
Then unexpectedly Carl stands up, and rushes over to Ron, grips him by the arm tightly and quickly walks a few meters away, just out of earshot. Then Carl makes a couple gestures with his hands. It looks like he's trying to explain something to Ron but I can't figure it out. I lean in onto the edge of the bench, wondering if the few extra inches would let me hear him, but to no avail. The sky is beginning to get dark, the pinks and oranges turning into deep purples and navy blues. I grumble and stand up,
"You know what, I have to go do something soooooooooo, yah bye!"
I don't wait for a response, an just walk away down the path of bricks to get ready to spy on the meeting.
Carl's POV
~A little earlier~
I stand abruptly and and walk up to my smirking friend an drag him away a bit, just so (Y/N) can't hear.
"What the heck man?!" I whisper-yell at him.
"Whatever could you mean?" He asks sarcastically.
"I was about to kiss her and you just barged in out of no where!" I said, using my hands to gesture at 'out of no where'.
"Sorry! I thought I was breaking up an awkward moment! I didn't know you were trying to-"
He was cut short when (Y/N) stood up and announced, "You know what, I have to go do something sooooooooooooo, yah bye!"
Then she took off down the path, towards the houses.
I just huffed in frustration, and I mumble,
"Never Mind."
I shove my hands into my pockets and walk away in silence, leaving Ron to his own thoughts in the now dark garden.
I make it to our house, and plop down onto one of the rocking chairs on the deck. I look up to the dark blue and black sky peppered with bright white stars.
"I almost had her."
