Chapter 11

It turned out the new guy was a real stickler for discipline. Not that it bothered me, but Miko wasn't too thrilled. Every time she ran out of bridge as a stowaway or played her guitar at her usual ear killing volume, he would chastise her and make sure the stringed instrument was well out of her reach. Bulkhead retrieved it for her when he wasn't looking. The Autobot also didn't take the girl's opinion of his choice of alt mode very well either. He stormed out of the base to find another and probably to get away from her loud mouth. He came back as a black pickup truck.

What really got me interested about him was the amount of weaponry he had. Being the technology geek that I am, it excited me that they were all built from scratch out of spare parts. When I wasn't with Ratchet, I was with Ironhide learning about the alien weaponry. Ironhide didn't mind in the least. He was overjoyed even to share his knowledge of his giant-sized cannons.

"Jessica, would you like to come with me to target practice?" Ironhide asked out of the blue one day.

I smiled at the idea of actually seeing those cannons in action. "I'd love too!"

"She would not love to!" Ratchet suddenly dropped everything he was doing to intrude on the newly developed conversation. "I will not have her even risking the possibility of an injury!"

Ironhide looked thoroughly confused at Ratchet's outburst. "What, you don't want to have to patch her up?" I laughed mentally. He was calling the medical officer lazy.

"That is most certainly not the cause. I do not wish for my daughter to be put into harm's way. I'm taking every precaution possible. It's bad enough that Megatron wants her to work for him." The white and orange bot crossed his arms and gave the weapons specialist a stern look.

"Daughter? You never had a sparkling, Ratchet."

"Though she may not be my biological sparkling, she is my sparkling as far as my spark is concerned. No one can do anything to change that." He gave me a loving look out of the corner of his optic.

"Is that some sort of Earth custom?" Ironhide was really confused and no one was giving him very explanatory answers. Thankfully, Optimus finally decided to step in.

"We have learned many things during our stay on Earth. The most significant of which is the concept of family. Anyone can be your family if you care for them. Ratchet and Jessica have decided to love each other as a sparkling and sire would."

"This is all going over my head, Prime."

The Autobot leader smiled softly. "You have much to learn about Earth, Ironhide. I'm sure Jessica will help you. But for now, it is time to get the other three home."

The guardians of the other kids took them home. Those Autobots wouldn't be returning tonight due to curbside duty. I couldn't say I felt sorry for them. It was feeling way too crowded in here and those Autobots were somewhat annoying, just not as much as Miko. I guessed that that was part of the reason why I liked Ironhide so much. He put her in her place.

Ratchet soon put me to bed in his room, but I couldn't sleep. I was still awake when he came in to rest himself three hours later.

"You should be asleep," he said with disapproval.

"I can't sleep," I explained.

He sighed. "Lonely?" I nodded.

He laid on his berth after closing the door and picked me up. He carefully placed me over where his spark was. It was so warm. I curled up against his metal chassis. I was quickly able to fall asleep with his presence.

IRONHIDE!!! XD I'm super stumped on what to do next in the story, as always.  I'm trying to stretch the story out instead of abruptly ending it, buuuut I need ideas in order to do so.  Please message me or comment your ideas! I'll dedicate the chapter to you when I use your idea.  Stay Jazzy! :P
