Chapter 14

My interrogator called in Knockout. He gave the doctor the instructions of giving me back to the Autobots for repair and coming up with a good story to tell them of how I got injured. Little did he know, they already knew the real reason. Unfortunately, I was unconscious before we even left the ship.

The screams were all I could think about over the course of the next several minutes. Megatron had done something terrible to her. None of us knew what, but we could guess. Everyone knew the Decepticon leader was nothing short of cruel. Knowing him, he had probably given her some type of fatal injury. I was fairly certain he did from the sounds of it.

Then came the call we had been waiting for. Optimus, Arcee, and Ironhide went to retrieve Jessica while I prepared the medical bay. I was waiting by the bridge when they returned. What I saw was an unconscious Jessica with blood all over the lower portion of her body and something hanging hanging out of the gaping hole in her leg I took her from Optimus's hands and ordered that no bot come into the bay.

As quickly as I could, I cleaned the area. Then, I sewed the hole in her leg back together after reinserting what had come out. I hooked her up to an iv and heart monitor, gave her more blood, then rested a moment.

My arms were folded on the operating table with my head laid on top. I looked over her body for any more injuries. When I saw that I had done all I could, I reached over to her small arm and turned off the communicator. I sighed then scanned her to see if her vitals were all right. They were ever so slowly returning to normal as I had expected. Then something really caught my attention. My optics widened and I panicked slightly at the finding. Energon, however small the amount, was flowing through her veins.

My thoughts first led me to when Rafael had been shot with dark energon. Regular energon had reversed the effects since the two types had canceled each other out. What would having only regular energon in a human system do? It troubled me a great deal that this had never been tested before. Then again, who would possibly volunteer to be in this experiment? It could be life threatening, but there was only one way to find out. I was going to find out whether I liked it or not. It's not like I could just suck the energon out of her. It would be impossible without also draining her own blood. Only time would be able to tell whether she would live or die.

"Let me in Ratchet! I wanna see her!" Ironhide called as he beat on the door. It hurt to have to keep him away from Jessica, but it was for the best. She wasn't even stable yet.

-Prime, keep him away. I'm trying to work. Her vitals have not yet returned to normal. Also, there has been a development. I'm not sure what will become of it.-Ratchet

-As you wish. What sort of development are you speaking of?-Optimus Prime

-Energon is in her system. I'm not sure what it's doing. I'm going to scan her periodically to see if anything changes. For the time being, I can only conclude that I believe she will not be able to walk again. The internal tissues in her leg are beyond repair.-Ratchet

-I am deeply sorry. Shall I retrieve Nurse Darby?-Optimus Prime

-No, no. I've already done everything she could have done. Anything that happens now is beyond her skills.-Ratchet

-Everything will turn out fine, old friend. I know you'll do whatever it takes to make her well again. I'll let you get back to work.-Optimus Prime
