After what seemed an eternity the Doctor decided it was time to tell Clara about Gallifrey. 'I did eventually find Gallifrey Clara,' he spoke in an almost indistinguishable whisper.
'Well, that's good then isn't it.' she asked while sitting next to him. His posture showed a man with the weight of the entire universe on his shoulders. In the past he relished in that challenge as Bad Wolf said "The one to save us all." But, the man before her had crumbled under the weight of it all and was silently crying. Clara placed her hand on his shoulder he winced but not as violently as before. 'Doctor, talk to me,' Clara pleaded with the Doctor.
'It took a few regenerations. Missy playing her games and all of that. I did eventually find it. It was exactly where I said it would be in a pocket universe. I used a regeneration in the process of bringing it back and I succeeded. But, I didn't take one thing into account the Daleks. I thought I had defeated them on Trenzalore. But, the one thing the Daleks are good at is surviving! So, with Gallifrey back the Time Wars began anew. The Nightmare Child, the Mean Ones, all of them, and eventually Rassilon began to consider the Final Sanction. Again, Clara, it happened again.' Clara is completely heartbroken for her Doctor. She knew that he had tried for four hundred years to bring his home back. He beamed when he was able to save them versus destroying them. 2.47 billion children he had saved that day and in front of his eyes Gallifrey turned to hell once again. How do you even begin to heal from that she thought as she stared at the weeping Doctor. All she wanted to do was hug her sad Doctor but even that had changed. She didn't care, but she did have the respect to at least ask him for a hug. 'I don't deserve one. I don't deserve anything,' the Doctor replied through his tears.
'Don't say that,' she said through her own tears. Seeing him in this much despair was almost as bad as when she last spoke to Danny. "I'm sorry Clara, I truly am but I have a promise to keep." He sent the little boy he had inadvertently killed in the war back to his family. She was still angry at him for that. How could he put a boy over her she had that argument with herself everyday since that night. It was a useless argument because she knew Danny and he would never put himself before others. That's who he was and she never wanted that to change but she also wanted him to grow old with her. When the Doctor began to speak she snapped back to the current incredibly sad conversation she was now having.
'Four regenerations to find Gallifrey and then another seven fighting. So much innocent blood are on these hands Clara,' the Doctor stared at his hands in despair. Clara knew she had to bring him out of this. Her Doctor rarely let his emotions out but when he did it was a hum dinger. She lifts his hands and examines them closely looking at every crack and crevice. Then she closes her eyes hoping what she says next will break the tension.
'Well, they look fine to me! I don't see any blood on them. Although, you could do with some moisturizer,' she tried to grin at her horrid attempt to lighten the Doctor's mood. There was no response from the Doctor just utter sadness.
