There have always been rumors about what the government can and will hide from the people. Only very few believe the theories, and most of the time those people are pushed away from the rest of society and called "ridiculous," "paranoid" or "irrational".
Innumerable movies and books have been published with only guesses at how close to reality the stories were. Most didn't even realize they were exactly right.
Accidents, some would call them. A single mutation in a child's genes that makes so much of a difference. This is what has been hidden for years, hidden away in a small, secluded facility in the middle of a desert, somewhere in Arizona.
Its specific whereabouts are unknown to the public. No amount of hacking through government systems could reveal this information. These files are kept strictly on paper; in another high-security facility whose whereabouts are unknown as well.
This specific facility is nothing more than a relocation center: a relocation center for those kids with "special abilities."
It could be described as a school of some sorts, but it is very clear to these "students" that their time spent at the facility does not include freedom.
This can be a good thing, because, in some special cases, the mutations can cause children to become very dangerous weapons.
Chapter One: Elias, Elisa, and Emi
Elias plopped down on the seat next to Elisa. He rested his cheek on his fist as he poked at his food with his fork. Elisa sat, with her back straight, and watched him. He seemed to be getting more and more aggravated with his life here. Elias looked up at her. "What?" He asked. Elisa just shrugged and continued eating her food. It wasn't what she used to get at home, so long ago, but it was food and she couldn't complain. Elias huffed quietly, annoyed with how delicate Elisa acted all the time. She never complained, about anything. She was always happy, if he could even call it that. It was more like she was always content with her life. It was just unnatural. Elias missed his old life, with his parents, his friends, and his little sister. "Elias, Elisa!" Elias looked up to see little Emi, practically skipping over to their table. Her pale pink wavy hair was in a cute little ponytail on the side of her head. She set her tray of food down in front of Elias and gave him a big smile, scrunching up her little nose as she did so. She would have looked like a normal little girl- aside from the pink hair- if she didn't have on that orange jumpsuit like prisoners wore. Every kid that came here was forced to wear an orange jumpsuit every day. They had limited sizes, so most of the kids wore one size too big, like Emi. Elisa was lucky enough to have one that fit her. Elias's was just a little too big for him, also. Emi sat down and began eating her food as she filled the other two in on the latest rumors she'd heard. At first, it was difficult for Elias to make out her words, due to the food being in her mouth as she spoke, but over time, both Elias and Elisa had gotten used to it and it had become easier. Elias, Elisa, and Emi all sat at the same table every day and usually talked about the same stuff. The three kids had become good friends and had all arrived at about the same time. That's why all of their names began with the letter "e". As each kid arrived, they were stripped of their previous name, to sever any possible connection that somebody could make to them, and were given a new name to be addressed by. Elias had arrived first; therefore his name came first in alphabetic order. Elisa came second of the group-despite the fact she was older than Elias by two years at fourteen- therefore her name was next in alphabetic order. Emi had come last of the group, and she was also the youngest by three years. They were now naming the kids that showed up names beginning with "g", so the trio was fairly new, and not quite used to things yet. Elias just wanted to get out, escape, and go home to his family. He missed his little sister more than anything in the world. He would give anything just to see her pale blue eyes against her dark brown hair again. He looked back down at his food and tugged, nervously, at the bandanna he wore around his neck. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a loud banging sound echoed through the cafeteria. It sounded like metal. Mixed in with the continuous banging were grunts of frustration, as if someone had gotten angry and started punching metal. Elias flexed his fingers and summoned his dual daggers as a reflex. A guard noticed and shouted at Elias. Elias jumped from the surprise of the shout and his daggers vanished. The banging stopped and everyone froze. A loud, maniacal laugh echoed down the hallways and into the cafeteria. The students, and even some guards, shifted nervously. Everyone knew where the laugh was coming from. It originated from a single hallway. Its entrance was guarded 24/7 by the strongest, most stubborn guards they could find. They were armed heavier than the rest, with Tasers, handguns, and even semi-automatic weaponry. It wasn't so much as to keep the students out, as to keep someone in. It was supposed to be a secret that nobody should know about. But, some of the students had started rumors about a girl, who was the reason for the creation of this place. Her abilities had granted her so much power she had gone insane from it. She was positively the most dangerous mutant out there. She was one of the few who had powers that were beyond anyone's mental capacity. There were also rumors that she could sneak into your dreams at night and cause the worst nightmares imaginable. The students had nicknamed her Aislin, meaning "dream". Elias shifted nervously as the laugh died out. He met eyes with Emi, whose were wet with tears. Her small hands were shaking and her blue eyes made her tears look like crystal. Elias reached out over the table and took her hand. She was his little sister now, and he wouldn't let anything hurt or scare his family. That included Elisa, who was much like a protective older sister to him. A loud bell broke the tense silence in the room, signaling the students that it was time for curfew. Elias, Elisa, and Emi all stood and dumped their trays' leftover contents into the garbage before heading their separate ways. Elisa took Emi's hand and led her to their room of six girls. Elias waved goodnight as he went towards the separate hallway for boys' rooms. As he passed by the guarded hallway, he gazed down, towards the heavy metal door that always remained locked. Through the slits, he saw one bright jade green eye staring back at him. The rest of the girl's features faded into the darkness behind her. Time seemed to slow down and Elias heard a sweet, smooth voice inside his head. You wish to leave this place. You wish to see your home. You wish to see Jenna. Elias stopped in his footsteps and turned his gaze away. He felt himself start to shake. The guards standing next to him pushed him forward and it took everything Elias had to walk back to his room without breaking down. He lay on his bed that night, shaking and sweating with fear. How had she known? How had she known his sister's name?
