Chapter 7
Dante had been pacing the waiting room for what seemed like hours now. Finally, the doctor came out to speak with him, being that he was the officer on duty.
"Doctor Weiten, how is she?" he asked as he shook the doctor's hand.
"She is pretty banged up officer. She has multiple contusions and lesions all across her body. The bump she has on her head has caused a mild concussion in which we will keep her for observation for a few days up to a week. The nurse reported that the rape kit was positive and that her attacker was quite violent in that manner as well. The nurse will have the rape kit bagged for you shortly," the doctor said very clinically as if they were talking about a wounded animal instead of a person. As Dante nodded at the doctor's statements he felt rage boil inside of him. There weren't many cases he loathed working more than a rape case. A man should never raise his hand against a woman under any circumstance, but to take a woman in that manner is unforgivable in his opinion.
Dante turned to go outside for a breath of fresh air before the doctor caught his arm.
"Get that son of a bitch," the doctor whispered before he turned and went back through the entrance of the emergency room.

The further dinner went the more that Tricia noticed the absence of Daniel and his little baby. Finally, after they had eaten and were all just talking around the table Tricia forced the nerves out of her stomach to ask.
"Where are Daniel and the baby?" Tricia asked as she tried to hide the just how interested she was in Daniel's whereabouts. Tricia didn't miss the haunted look that came into Dhira's eyes when she asked.
"Daniel had to take Christine to Michigan to be with her mother," Dhira wasn't sure how much she was supposed to tell anyone about Danny's business. She didn't want to anger him after all the progress they had made since he read his father's letter.
"Oh," Tricia said feeling a tremor of pain jolt her heart. He was with his baby mama.
"Tricia, you okay?" Jenn asked as she placed her hand on Tricia's arm.
"Yeah, yeah of course. I am glad that everything is working out for him so well. He deserves to be happy. I hate to run, but I have to get home and get things sorted for my cousin's birthday party. I will see you all later and Dhira thanks for dinner," I said as I got out of there as fast as I could.
After Tricia left Dhira told Jenn and Marty what was going on.
"Do you think I should've told Tricia what was going on? I hated that look on her face, but I will not lose my son again just because I opened my big mouth about his business," Dhira said to the couple.
"No mom I think you did the right thing. Danny needs to sort things with Tricia himself face to face," Jenn told her mother.

Danny's POV
After arriving at the hospital I had to fight with the staff to let me in to see Natasha. Finally, they relented so that she could see her daughter. When we entered her room her eyes were wide with what looked like relief.
"My baby," she said with tears rolling down her face. She reached her arms out for Christine.
"Dan I don't know if I have the strength to hold her without dropping her," she said. Dan walked over to the other bed in the room and grabbed the pillows putting them under her arm so that the pillow was supporting her and Christine.
"Thank you, Dan. You didn't have to bring her here. I have missed her so much," she said kissing the baby's head.
"You're welcome. You know if you would've just told me I would have been here with you the whole time," he told her.
"I-I don't even know what I am doing. They only gave me a month to live. They said that the chemo and other treatments aren't going to help anymore. They told me to go home and die in peace. I have no home to go to so they are allowing me to stay here because their state insurance has picked up the bills," she said looking so sad that Daniel nearly collapsed with the feelings it stirred in him.
"Yes, you do have a home. You are coming home with Christine and me. I know that the only reason that your cancer got to this stage is because you put off treatment for Christine's sake. I will take care of you," he said with honesty.
"Dan, do you know what you are saying? It's not going to be a pleasant situation," she said.
"I know exactly what I am doing. Now, what about your family? How do we contact them?" He asked her.
"My parents died last year in an airplane crash. I have no family, Dan," she said.
"See you are wrong again," he told her and she looked up to him confusion marring her face.
"We are your family, Tash," he said with conviction. The smile she gave him could light a whole block. She was still a beautiful woman, even after the weight-loss and losing her hair.
"Dan, I have no way to repay you," she said with happiness. He could see her eyes drooping so he and Christine made their way to the hallway to find the doctor to get her released so they could make the trip home.
