"Please record your message after the beep"
*beep*
I sighed, "Hey mom I'm going out with some old friends this weekend so I might not be home until late tonight. Love you, bye," after parking my car I left the message to my mom hoping she'll hear it before it gets late.
I look in my rear view mirror. I looked very basic and quite boring. There wasn't anything really special about me. I didn't have crazy beautiful eyes nor did I have perfect drawn on eyebrows. I wish I was talented enough to do my makeup but I'm not good at it. To me, my flat brown hair, lightly freckled face, and brown eyes are enough. The only thing I'm not too fond of is my height, I'm 5'6. I know I know, it's supposedly "average".
This weekend I'm at my hometown visiting my mom and old friends. I mean what else should a girl do on her twenty first birthday.... okay so there are a lot of things but whatever. Yesterday and all day today I've been hanging out with my mom and little brother Axel, he's eleven now I think.
Tonight it will be me and two of my old friends, Jack and Hailee. We never talk anymore but we are going to see if we can reconnect. I'm the only one out of the three of us that went to college. I go a state away in Washington and I lived in Oregon, we tried that whole Skype thing but it didn't work out.
Since I'm the youngest of the group and I just turned twenty-one we decided to go to the bar. Once I got to Jack's house I jumped out and adjusted my dress. I was a little nervous so I was sweating a little. I haven't seen those guys for about a year. We would text every once in a while but it would be one of those typical boring conversations.
When I knocked I heard a bunch of yelling and smacking. The door swung open and Hailee jumped at me with a hug.
"I missed you so much Sky!" she screamed in my ear. It was muffled from her face being in my neck.
"Aww I was going to hug her first!" complained Jack in the background.
Hailee and I separated giggling, I went over and gave Jack a hug too. He whispered that they had missed me a lot.
"So are we going to go or what?!" Hailee screamed excitedly. She was already running to the car, her heels clicking on the sidewalk.
Jack and I ran after her and did what we used to as kids all the time. We went on each side of her, Jack and I linked arms behind her neck and each grabbed a leg. We lifted her up and kept running all giggling together. Jack was a couple inches taller than me while Hailee was really short, like 5'3.
Once to the car Jack got in the drivers seat, he was going to be the designated driver if needed to be said. Us children are very responsible, or should I say adults, I'm not sure. Both me and Hailee sat in the back so we can catch up. Anyway when I say Hailee is talkative, I mean really talkative. I was occupied with questions the whole way there.
"So do you have a boyfriend?" she asked with a goofy smile.
"No, college keeps me pretty busy."
"Is your roommate still a grump?"
"Yeah she doesn't really talk to me anymore though."
"Oh, how is your mom?"
"She's good, Axle keeps her busy."
"Okay guys we're here!" Jack yelled over Hailee's mumbling.
We got out of the car and linked arms with Hailee in the middle.
"So Hailee do you have a boyfriend?" I asked to make conversation. There was a small line to get into the club.
I looked at her and saw her blushing. She looked up at Jack who had a smirk on his face. He tightened his arm around her.
"Sky, Jack and I have been dating for about four months now," she said smiling.
"Aww I knew you guys liked each other! This is so exciting!" I jumped.
Once it was our turn to show our ID's I pulled mine out like it was going to break.
Once he checked it he smiled. "Happy birthday"
I said thank you and went in looking around. The lights were very bright flashing everywhere. The music was loud and shaking the floor. Everybody was giggling, dancing, drinking, and sweating everywhere.
"So Sky, do you want to start with a drink?" Hailee said.
"Yeah, but you're paying," I said with a smile.
The bartender was very busy. Throwing things everywhere but always having a smile. He seems to enjoy his job a lot. He was very good at his job too. Maybe he's just acting though. When I got my first job my manager said to me "your job is sort of like acting. Put on a smile even if it's hard too."
"Are you sure you are old enough to be drinking?" he asked me with a friendly smile.
"Became legal today," I said with a goofy smile, "so what do you suggest for my first drink?"
"I know the perfect thing," he said while grabbing bottles and pouring them into a medium sized glass.
I was excited, Jack and Hailee were excited too by the looks on their faces. The bartender handed me the drink and when Hailee tried to give him the money he refused.
"It's on the house for your first drink," he said. He leaned over the bar a little bit and rested his elbows on the counter. He watched me with a smile, waiting for me to take a drink.
He was a handsome looking man. Too old for me but definitely not bad looking. Dark brown hair and light blue eyes.
I took a small sip and scrunched my nose. It tasted like berry's and rubbing alcohol. I coughed a little bit and looked at the bartender. He was laughing at me like he knew that was going to happen.
"It's usually like that the first drink, you'll like it the more you drink it. Just take a few more sips and you'll love it." he said. After he finished his little speech he turned around and did a couple other drinks.
I turned back to my friends, they were both flirting with each other a couple stools away. I smiled at there happiness and looked around at the other couples.
I saw one wearing matching T-shirts, the girl wearing a black skirt and the guy wearing jeans. There was a couple by the restrooms kissing but seemed really drunk. There was a boy and girl holding hands too, the boy was distracted by another guy maybe a friend. His girlfriend or whoever she was, was flirting with the guy next to him.
"First time at a club?" someone said next to my ear.
I turned to them with a smile, "Yeah, and you are?"
"Ben, Ben Thomas," he said with his hand outstretched.
I shook his hand and took another sip of my drink. He looked about my age maybe a couple years older.
"So what's your name?" he asked smiling.
"Skylar, last name doesn't concern you," I said with a smirk.
"I like you, Skylar," he said, "drinks on me?"
"Well why would anyone say no to that kind of offer?" I gulped down the rest of my drink and set it on the bar with a thud. I cringed at the taste, as it burned my throat. I didn't care though, I wanted to have fun.

So I was working on a different book but I just wasn't feeling as passionate about it.
I haven't really made much plans for this yet but I'll think of something.
