Chapter 7

The next morning was banishment day. You, Matt and Hayes went on the morning run and came back to lunch. "Hey, can you guys just go out once today? We need help with the banishment." Cameron says to us as we sit there eating the chicken soup Shawn made for lunch. You noticed that Cameron was always checking you out for some reason but never said anything about it. "It is so hot out today huh shucks?" He asks. "Yeah." You say. Just as you finish that word he takes off his shirt revealing his rock hard abs. You bit your lip quickly but no one really noticed. You looked over at Matt and he was red with anger. You got up and left your plate on the table. Since you only went out once today you asked Nash what you could help with. He said the blood-house was short staff today because of everyone getting ready for the banishment, so you went to help Shawn with preparing dinner. "What are we making?" You ask.

"You moan." He says and laughs. "I'm totally joking!" He says, "Hot dogs." He continues, "We are making Hot dogs." He says blushing a bit. You laugh, "Okay let's get started." You say. "With what?" He asks innocently. "Making hot dogs?" You say a bit confused. "Of course, of course." He says. "You're one weird shuck." You say laughing. "It's cute when girls say shuck." He says blushing even more now. "Okay then.." You say and get to work toasting the buns. You start to hum the only song you remember from before you went into the Maze. Sweater Weather by the Neighbourhood. The humming eventually turned into singing.

"But it's too cold for you here and now, so let me hold both your hands in the holes of my sweater. She knows what I think about..." You sing. And then you hear Shawn sing, "She know what I think about 1 love 2 mouths, 1 love 1 house, no shirt, no blouse, just us and you'll find out oh...." He sings in a beautiful voice. You look at him shocked, "Wow! Your voice is amazing!" You exclaim. "Thanks." He chuckles and blushes. You guys finish getting dinner ready and walk out of the blood-house. You see the sun is setting and that means the banishment it about to begin. You see everyone heading for the North entrance so you follow the crowd. You see Carter tied to a chain, sitting on the ground crying. He looked hysterical. You almost felt bad for him. "Cam do we really have to do this? He is stung we could save him." You say to Cameron. "No direct punishment when you threaten or attempt to kill another Glader is banishment." Cameron says walking to a shed and getting 9 sticks with metal spikes sticking out of them. All the boys get one stick each, leaving Mahogany to look after the crazed shuck we used to know as Carter. "READY AT YOUR MARKS!" Cameron screamed, he looks at you and winks. Fuck he's hot! You think to yourself. You wanted him almost as much as you wanted Matt but you had to stay focused. All of the boys go into a semi circle with Carter in the middle. "Guys! Guys it's me! It's Carter! Please listen! That wasn't me back in the forest! That wasn't me...." He sobs. "Don't listen to him y/n." Matt warns. "Sorry, Carter. It's for the best." Matt says. "Start moving in!" Yells Cameron and they all start moving in closer to the entrance of the Maze. "Guys! Guys please! Give me a chance guys. Matt? Matt I'm your best friend... You know it wasn't me back there. Matt? Matt? Matt! Matthew please!" Carter cries, tears running down his face. You see Matt silently crying trying his best to stay tough. The now familiar clangs of metal that signals the closing of the doors. "Start moving in faster!" Cameron yells. They started stepping forward faster and faster. You could barely look at Carter crying and begging for forgiveness. You run between all of the spikes. The door just started closing you still had a minute. "Carter! I'm sorry. I was a rude shuck. I'm so so sorry!" You say kissing him on the cheek. "Thank you for being my friend." You lead him into the Maze calming him down. "Goodbye Carter. Thank you." You whisper into his ear and then run back into the glade. The last thing you here from Carter him screaming your name. You break down falling to the ground in sobs. Matt runs to your side comforting you. "It's okay y/n. He's gone now. He's gone." He says hugging you. "Why did you have to banish him!" You say between sobs. You get up and run into the forest. You get halfway in before you break down on the ground crying. You hear someone behind you. "Need some help babe?" He says with a smirk.
