"Hi"

My heart soars at one simple word. I can feel my face heat up and I don't know what to say.

"Hi", I stutter. Not looking directly into his stormy grey eyes.

Each day I try my hardest not to fall for him. No matter how hard I try, he pulls me back in. How can I get away?

"So, um, how've you been Onyx?"

I guess I got really tangled up in my thoughts. His voice startles me a little.

"Fine, fine, how about yourself?" I question, not really knowing what else to say.

"Things have been great", he answers.

"That's good"

"Yep, just great"

I let out a sigh. I'm getting tired of this awkwardness between us.

"What happened to us?" I wonder out loud. "We had no trouble talking to each other at camp."

"I know, I guess it just got personal" he replies.

He opens his mouth as if he wanted to say something, but closes it. The thought left just as quickly as it came.

It kept me wondering on the walk home, what is he hiding?
