CLARA'S POV
I walked into the library and scanned the room, when my eyes landed on Harry sitting in a table by the back. I walked up to him, a small smile on my face at the sight of him.
"Kinda reminds you of when we first meet, yeah?" Harry asked me. I nodded and slid in the seat across from him.
"I did not like you," I told him, a small laugh falling from my lips.
"Oh how the tables have turned," Harry observed and I rolled my eyes before getting down to business.
"I think I've found a new lead," I began and Harry straightened up and sat forward a bit so I could lower my voice slightly. "Melissa has been testing me lately, Harry, she definitely knows something. And while she's been testing me, she's shown me a lot of the things she can do. She's not a normal teenager, either," I told him, before recounting the events that had made me suspicious of her in the first place. Harry nodded as I finished.
"I think you're right," he told me. "Let's wrap this up, okay? I wanna go home," he said, and I nodded, standing up with Harry and leaving the library to go back to my room. We parted ways outside of the library and I started walking at a brisk pace towards my room, hoping to get there before Claire left for cheer practice.
When I opened the door to my room, Claire was on the other side, obviously just about to leave.
"Evie? Cheer practice is in 5 minutes you better hurry!" she told me, about to move past me when I stopped her. I noticed Melissa wasn't in the room.
"Wait! I need to ask you something, and I need you to be honest with me," I asked of her. She thought about this for a moment before she stepped back into our room and closed the door.
"Fine, as long as I get to ask you something and you're honest with me," she bargained. I nodded my head and waited for her to speak. "What happened to your lip?" I sighed and looked away, before looking back at her, preparing to tell her the truth.
"Tanner hit me," I told her, not very interested in the topic.
"I knew it! Evie you need to tell someone!" she advised me.
"How did you know?" I asked her. Claire paused for a moment before speaking.
"Melissa dated him once too; we both know when he's drunk he gets a little temperamental. He tried to hit her once, but she stopped him somehow. Then they broke up, and now they're both nice to each other. It's like nothing ever happened. To be honest I still think she likes him," Claire told me, which made me even more suspicious. I remembered my suspicion from earlier, and tried to decide if it would be too weird to ask.
"Claire, who is Melissa's father?" I asked her. Claire gave me a confused look before answering.
"Mr. Cormack," she said, as if I should have known. Suddenly, all the pieces clicked together, and I smiled. I thanked her and then got dressed in clothes for cheer, after texting Rain and informing her of our finds, waiting for the go ahead before texting Harry the plan. Then I jogged down to the football field, where both cheer and football were, before being spotted by Melissa, who called me out immediately.
"Evie! You're late," she said as I reached her. I nodded my head but pulled her to the side before whispering to her.
"I need to speak with you. In private," I added, and I watched Melissa as she reluctantly nodded. Then I walked with her to the school gym, where I had told Harry to meet me with Tanner. When we walked in, sure enough, there was Harry and Tanner standing in the middle of the gym, talking. Melissa slowed down but didn't stop moving until we reached the boys. I didn't fail to notice how she stood by Tanner's side, facing Harry and I.
