(Joanne's Point of View)

I made my way through the thick crowd of people in Costa and all but flung myself into the last seat with a table which was by the window. New Year's Day sales. They are the worst yet best ever. Good because you can always find something that you wanted ages ago but didn't want to get because it was too expensive but worst because of the amount of people who are around. However it can be funny if you see two people fighting over the last pair of shoes in the sale stock. It was my first proper outing in Mansfield by myself. We'd moved here about three months ago when my dad got a promotion at work and had to be relocated to a new office. So it meant my brother's and I had to be uprooted from everything we'd know back home in Glasgow. For me and my younger brother Josh, it meant being pulled out of school for him and college for me. Luke, the oldest of us, he'd finished university so it wasn't that much of a bother for him to leave. I was snapped out of my thought by Josh finally reaching me and sitting down across from me.

"Remind me to never come shopping with you during the sales ever again!" he sighed, taking a sip of his coffee.

"Josh don't lie, you love coming out with me because I buy you stuff." I smirked and glanced at the bags he was carrying. I could name five items that I had bought him in my head.

"Alright fine I love going shopping with my big sister. So sue me." he laughed and threw my straw wrapper at me but it glided halfway before pathetically falling on the middle of the table. I looked away from Josh and out onto the busy high street. It was trying to snow which I loved because who doesn't love snow. Although as I watched the tiny flecks of it fall to the ground and dissipate on the wet ground I couldn't help but sigh. It brought back a few painful memories for me. Before we moved to Mansfield, my boyfriend of 3 years had cheated on me. Typically it was with the biggest slut at my college. I still wasn't completely over it despite it happening about five months ago. He was my first serious relationship which is why it hurt so much I guess.

"Blair again?" Josh asked. Obviously he knew why I'd gone silent. He may be my little brother and only sixteen but I told Josh everything. I was closer to him than I was with Luke.

"Yes. Is it that obvious? I'm trying to forget and get over him but it's hard." I sighed stirring my Frappuccino with the straw.

"Ugh just forget about that dick,, Josh said with a small smile. "My big sister can do way better than that twat. You'll find someone ten times better. Trust me." I smiled at him and wanted to just hug him but I wouldn't embarrass him in public like that.

"You're such an amazing wee brother you know that? Some girl is going to be very lucky one day to have you," I said finishing my drink. I grabbed my bags and picked up his coffee for him while he gathered up his bags. "Right I think we should head back to my car and get back home. Don't think I can take any more shopping." Josh turned and looked at me with shock.

"You not being able to handle more shopping? Next joke please Joanne." he smirked and walked ahead of me back towards my car down the street.

I'd been home two hours and already I was bored out of my mind. I headed downstairs and grabbed my jacket and pulled my shoes on and headed out the front door. I needed to clear my head. Especially after what I had seen on my Facebook about a half hour ago. Blair was in a relationship with that whore. Not that it surprised me. I figured it would happen after he shagged her behind my back. Just guess it hurt seeing it on Facebook where he knows I'd see it. Josh was right though. I had to forget about him and move on. I was starting a new college here to finish my course so I planned to just focus on my coursework and get it done. I walked around the block and found myself at a park on the next street over. I walked over to the swings and sat down on one and started to gently rock myself back and forth not caring that the seat was slightly wet from the earlier attempt at snow. I scuffed the toes of my shoes, lost in my own little world.

"You should have seen her mate! She was such a mess. Her make up everywhere. She looked like a fucking clown. As if she thought I was being serious when I asked her out." I pulled myself out of my thoughts at the sound of the guys voice and looked up. He was standing over by the climbing frame. Well I say standing but he was actually on one of the ledges with his legs hanging off the edge, and he was on his phone. His accent was really strong but then again since I moved to Nottingham everyone's accents were strong and we all stuck out like a sore thumb with our Scottish ones.

"I know! You owe me a fiver now for doing that. Cause let's face it she is so not my type." He clearly hadn't noticed I was in the park as well as he continued with his conversation over the phone. I squinted a bit against the sun which had now decided to appear from nowhere. He looked around 19 so my age with lightish brown hair that fell across his forehead as a fringe. He looked good but sounded like a right prick from what I could hear on his side of the conversation. He finally caught sight of me and hung up his phone without even saying a goodbye to whoever he was talking about.

"You alright? Not seen you around here before." he said walking over to me and leaning against the pole that held up the swing set I was on.

"Maybe because I only moved here a few months ago and haven't started at college yet." I said, keeping my tone clipped. He reminded me of Blair the way I'd heard him speak earlier. Blair used to be a good guy but towards the end of our relationship he became the most cocky and arrogant guy ever. And right now it felt like I was looking at the same person but with a different face.

"Would make sense. I'm Joel Peat. I live one street over from here." he said, pushing his hand out in front of him for me to shake. I ignored it and internally sighed. He lived on the same bloody street as me.

"Joanne." I said in response. I stood up from the swing and walked past him. "If you don't mind I'm meant to be home by now." I continued and walked off. When I reached the climbing frame I glanced back to find him watching me walk away with a smirk playing on his lips.
