(Joel's Point of View)
Ever since that day in the park when I was on the phone to Ryan I could not get her off my mind. Joanne. The Scottish girl who lived on my street. There was something about her that just made me want to get to know her more. We'd started back at college a few days ago and I turned up to find her at my college, she wasn't in any of my classes though seeing as I'm all music and I don't know what her classes are. I wanted to speak to her yet something made me think she wouldn't want to speak to me at all. I grabbed my bag as the class ended and headed out the back to the courtyard. There she was. As usual. Every day since she started here, at lunch she would sit on the same bench, under the same tree. She wasn't aware that I was at this college also. I took a deep breath and walked across the courtyard towards her.
"You on your own?" I asked leaning against the tree. She looked up from her book and sighed.
"Not you." she muttered and put her book down. "Can I help you?" she asked. I just smirked, I didn't mean to it was a force of habit.
"Yeah, how about I take you out on Friday? Show you around town?" I asked.
"I've been here three months, I think I've been around town plenty in that time." she said not even looking at me but at her Converse.
"Well that was my way of asking you out on a date without being too forward." I said. Normally I'm never this nervous asking a girl out but for some reason I couldn't stop my palms from sweating. Like I said there was just something about her.
"How about no?" she said. I raised an eyebrow at her.
"Why not? Most girls would kill to go out with me." I snapped and instantly regretted it as I sounded pretty full of myself.
"I've seen and heard the way you are with girls. That first time we met in the park? You sounded like a right arse on the phone. Asking out a girl for a joke. I don't associate myself with people like that and avoid dating guys like that. My ex ended up being like that." she said whilst picking up her bag and standing up. "So yeah, I think I'll pass on that date with you Joel. Because I will never go out with someone as cocky and arrogant as you." I watched as she walked off and disappeared inside the building.
"I'll change just you watch!" I shouted after her.
(Joanne's Point of View)
I can't believe he would even ask me out. I mean what made him think I would even want to go out with him? He's arrogant, cocky, so full of himself also. So what if he's good looking and popular. Not everyone cares about that and some people want more in a guy. I walked back into the college and headed out to the front door and across the street to the car parking. Ugh, I couldn't get him out of my head. Between him and his arrogance and Blair and that whore its a surprise I had any brain space left to think about other stuff. The fact he said he'll change. As if that'll happen. Blair said the same thing when I found him cheating and yet he hasn't changed at all. So I doubt that Joel will change. However, it does make me wonder why he said that. Why would he want to change just to possibly go on a date with a girl he's only known for like five minutes?I sighed and wanted to hit something at how annoying he was. Could he not just leave me be? I pulled into the driveway next to my dad's car and cut the engine. I climbed out the car and locked it behind me before heading inside.
"Mum! Dad! I'm home!" I shouted through the house.
"We're in the living room. Come and say hello to the neighbours." Mum replied. I sighed and kicked off my shoes and dropped my bag by the stairs. I walked through to the living room and almost screamed.
"Joanne these are the Peat's. They live just down the road." Dad said with a smile on his face. I watched as Joel turned around and smirked at me. I just ignored him and introduced myself to the rest of his family before excusing myself. I headed up to my room and closed the door only for it to open a few seconds later.
"Luke go away." I said turning to face my door. I scoffed when I seen who it actually was standing there. "Oh it's you."
"Charming. So who would have thought that we'd be neighbours eh?" he said coming into my room and sitting on my bed. I glared at the back of his head as he looked around my room.
"Not me. I'd rather my idiot of an ex were my neighbour than you if I'm perfectly honest. Did I not make myself clear at college? I don't want to go out with you. I wouldn't even want to hang out with you. So just get lost." I said turning back to my desk.
"Well you're going to have to put up with me for tonight because your parents invited us to stay for dinner." he said with that cocky grin I hated. Great a whole night of this asshole in my house. "I meant what I said earlier. I can and will change."
"No you won't. Once an arrogant ass always an arrogant ass. Plus why would you want to change yourself for a girl you've basically just met?" I asked.
"There's just something about you Joanne. That's why." he said with a small smile that wasn't the smirk I had only seen since we'd met. "See you at dinner." he added on before walking out of my room, closing the door behind him.
