Before I could explain and embarrass myself in front of Luke, I told him that I needed to Get back to Cody and that I'll fill him in someday. Someday.

I parked into a dull townhouse I called home and walked in to find Cody parked in front of the tv, like always, watching reruns of my moms show. I set my bag down by the door and stared at the woman through the TV screen.

She had a bright smile that lit up the room, blood red lipstick smeared perfectly on her lips. Her hair was pinned up in a bun tightly in place. Charlotte, her TV character, was playing around and making jokes. She was stunning back then. And was happy.

Her character was the polar opposite of herself at the moment. Too bad she turned into a sad pathetic unsupportive mother.

"So how was therapy jess?" My 13 year old brother asked me.

"It was definitely a unusual visit, but I'm just glad to be home," I smiled down on him from the back of the couch. "Now what do you say we go to the gas station?"

He shrugged and replied, "Okay. I mean, we usually go later but that's fine. Ashton promised me he would let me stay and work the cash register."

Our local gas station was just across the street from our house and we go everyday. No I'm not exaggerating either. The manager, Ashton lets us take whatever we need because well. We can barely afford a bag of chips. He grew up in hard times as well. The only difference is he ran away from his problems. Literally.

Ashton has totally helped us through our rigid life. He's also low key grown on Cody.

The door opened with a jingle of the bell at the top of the door, letting people know were here. The smell of potato chips and coffee beans came throughout my nose.

Usually you could find Ashton at the front, working the cashier but he wasn't present. "Cody go check the storage room for ash." I told my brother.

He obied and scurried to the back room. I went to go grab my usual: coffee and sour patch kids well Cody finds Ashton.

Cody came back almost a couple seconds later. With no Ashton. But with a piece of paper.
