"Look Ben I have a lot of homework to do, so can you please go back to bed?" I asked uncomfortably as I realized what I just admitted.
"Fine" He stated before marching to his room in an upset manner. Did I really admit that aloud? I asked myself and to Ben of all people? Ugh Nope not going to deal with this today. I'm just going to finish my homework and go to sleep; and that was exactly what I did.
After I woke up I checked on mom making sure that she was sleeping so she would be ready for her night shift, got Ben up and ready for school as well as made breakfast for the both of us. As soon as I finished washing the dishes I heard the doorbell ring. I looked at Ben and raised my eyebrows silently asking if he knew who was at the door. He shrugged and peered back equally as confused. I sighed as I went over to the door and opened it. Standing there was a overly happy Sam. "Hey" He exclaimed cheerfully.
"Ugh what are you doing here?" I asked totally not in the mood to be happy this early in the morning.
"Well we're on the bus together so I've decided that you're my bus buddy" He said as if that explained why he was at my house.
"Yea, that didn't answer my question" I said grumpily.
"What? Is there something wrong with walking to the bus together?" He asked mockingly putting a hand over his heart.
"No, but it's wrong for barging in without even telling me. Besides I need to bring Ben to his bus"
"I can go by myself. I'm old enough" Ben pipped in.
"No you're not" I said automatically. "And you" I said as I faced Sam "If we're really doing this then you have to bring Ben to his bus stop everyday"
"Why?" Sam asked whining
"Because you're the dad" I said with a smug smile "Now go bring your kid to school" I said as I pushed the boys out into the chilly October wind. By the time I had put on my jacket and got my backpack on Sam was back.
"Ready?" Sam asked sounding a bit winded his jacket unzipped.
"Sounds like someone needs more exercise" I replied with a smile
"Then what are these?" Sam said as he lifted up his shirt.
"Arghh Sam I don't need to see that" I said as I put my arms up to shield my eyes.
"What am I too strong for you?"
"No, you're too weak that looking at you would break your poor fragile body" I said turning my back towards him. There was silence. Too much silence. I started to turn around so I could apologize, but before I could even say a word Sam picked me up and threw me over his shoulders. You know how most people would have hit their attackers back to let go? Yea, I couldn't do that because Sam's stupid backpack was in the way.
"No stop I'm way too heavy for you" I said as I struggled to get off. His arms around my thighs tightened as my struggling increased.
"No you're not, but if you keep kicking me in the face then I will drop you" he warned. I immediately stopped and put my arms around his bag in defeat. He triumphantly walked out of the house.
"Put me down. I need to lock the door" I said as I struggled once again.
"I have the key you idiot" He muttered as he reached into his pocket and brought it out.
"Why were they in your pocket? Did you plan to do this to me?" I asked as Sam casually walked to the bus stop still carrying me on his back.
"I've been over to your house for years. Did you really think that your mom wouldn't give a pair to me?."
