"Hey beautiful" I heard behind me as I felt someone's hands cup over my eyes blocking out my vision, showing me a black screen.
"Hey Nate" I said with a smile as I gently took his hands off my face so I could turn around and face him. "No offense, but what are you doing here?" I asked puzzled because classes had just ended.
"I know you have a bus to catch, but I just wanted to make sure that you didn't forget about our date tonight" Nate said. He said it so quickly that if I didn't know any better I would say that he was nervous. I mean he'd dated a lot of girls before, so he should be a lot more confident I thought to myself.
"Nate, you sound a little-"
"I'm not" he immediately cut in turning slightly red
"I was going to say that you sound confident about this date, but okay" I said shrugging as I struggled to keep my face emotionless.
"Oh" he simply stated as his face turned an even darker shade of red.
"You're so adorable" I gushed
"Shush" he simply said "I'll pick you up at 7 for dinner ok?"
"okay, well I need to go" I said opening my arms at him indicating that I wanted a hug goodbye.
"Bye Taylor" he said as he engulfed me in a hug placing a kiss on my forehead before we parted in opposite ways.
Normally the bus rides involved me being alone blasting music in my ears because none of my friends were riding the same bus I did, but today wasn't that bad. All I could do was replay the scene that happened me and Nate over and over again. My grin growing wider each time I thought about it. I was so absorbed in my own little world that I didn't even notice the figure besides me asking if I could move my bag so that they could sit there. I probably still wouldn't have noticed if they didn't bend over and yank my earbuds off.
"Sam I didn't know that you were on this bus" I said confused by his unexpected arrival.
"I didn't either" he huffed as he sat down.
"What do you mean?"
"My mom changed her shift to mornings, so she can't drive me to school anymore" he said crossing his arms making him resemble a young child that was pouting.
"Aww it's going to be ok, now you have me" I said putting my arm up to mess up his hair.
"Don't touch my hair" he said as he batted my hand away from his head.
"Too bad" I said as I went up and ruffled his hair even more.
"Taylor if you don't stop I will tickle you" he threatened his green eyes flashing in a mischievous glint. I gasped in shock and immediately moved my hands away.
"I surrender" I said.
"Good" he said with a chuckle. "So any plans tonight?"
"Actually yea"
"Oh my gosh. Taylor Madison are you actually going out?" Sam asked in a stereotypical girly voice, putting his hands to his cheeks and forming an o in his mouth for emphasis.
"I do not sound like that" I exclaimed my voice sounding shrill
"Mhmm so what are you doing?" he asked
"Dinner" I squeaked trying to sound casual. As soon as I said that sam looked as if something dawned on him. Something horrible. His face contorted from a happy smile to a harsh straight face."With Nate?" he asked in a somber tone.
"Yea" I said trying to show to no emotion, so that I could possibly not hurt him as much.
"That's cool. Have fun" he said as he looked out the window
"So what are you doing?" I asked trying to steer the subject away from me.
"I was going to watch some movies with Jess"
"Please don't tell me you're going to watch Frozen again?" I asked in disbelief
"She's five" he stated as if that answered the question
"I swear sam, your sister is obsessed" I said shaking my head in disappointment
"Yea, but it's so cute to see her dance around when the songs come on" he said looking at me with a huge grin on his face as if he was seeing her now.
"She is adorable" I agreed. "Well at least it's Friday"
"Thank god, alright this is my stop bye"
"Bye" I said as I saw him take his bag and walk out of the bus to his house.
"Ugh I have nothing to wear" I said outloud as I looked into my closet trying to find the perfect outfit for my date with Nate.
"Tay-tay?" someone said behind me
"Hi Ben" I cooed as I turned around to see my six year old little brother looking at me with his through his shaggy brown hair.
"What are you doing?" he asked coming inside my room and jumping onto my bed.
"I'm getting ready to go to a fancy dinner"
"Why?" he asked scrunching up his eyebrows as he tried to understand.
"So that...um...I can see if I want to spend time with him" I said as I struggled to put my thoughts into words.
"Like mommy and daddy do on their anniversary?" Ben asked hugging my pillow
"Yea. Kinda" I said smiling that he understood.
"Are you going to be a grownup like mommy?" Ben asked
"What do you mean?"
"Like wear dresses?" he asked putting his hands up in the air like it was the most obvious answer
"I don't know" I said acting as if it was the most difficult question to answer. "Should I be a grownup?" I asked looking at Ben as I put my hands on my hips.
"Nooo" he shouted as he jumped off the bed clinging on to my leg.
"What do I do then?" I asked chuckling as I tried to peel Ben off me.
"Pretend" he whispered
"You want me to pretend to be a grownup?" I asked wide eyed in mock shock
"Like this" he said in the deepest voice a 6 year old could muster.
"I can't be like like daddy" I said laughing
"You can be mommy"
"How?"
"Come on" he said as he took my hand dragging me from my bedroom to mom's.
"I like this one" he said as he searched through the closest and tugged on blue dress that he liked. It was a beautiful shade of royal blue. The whole thing was lace. It flared out at the bottom and went just above my knee. The sleeves stopped right after my elbows and there was a black belt put the whole thing together. One thing that I liked was that there was no fabric under the arms so it really made the lace design work.
"Oh Ben it's so pretty" I said in awe as I just looked at it.
"Go ask mommy" he said pushing me out of the door.
"Haha ok Ben i'm going" I said giggling as I went to the kitchen to call mom and ask. She said yes and that she was coming home in ten minutes.
I changed and was just finishing my makeup when the doorbell rang.
"I'll get it!" I heard Ben yelled as he ran out of his room to open the door. I looked at the mirror one last time before going. I didn't see the same thing I saw last time. Instead of seeing a girl not trying I see a girl being happy and knowing that she was beautiful. I smiled to myself before walking out and to the door only to hear Ben asking Nate if he was pretending to be a grownup too.
