"What are you doing here?" I asked through gritted teeth as I tried my best not to slam the door at the man that was standing in front of me. I hated everything about him. His looks, personality, and smile. I hate all of it. The hate the fact that even though he looks exactly like dad it'll never be him. I hate the fact that he's the reason dad's dead. Images came flooding back as I focused on the person. Horrible memories that I locked away seemed to shine in my mind. Maybe if I just went a little bit faster everything would be ok.
"Taylor?" The man asked confused, as if me answering the door was the most surprising thing. "Where's Amy?"
"She's out" I said harshly. He flinched at my words but regained his composure quickly.
"I need to talk to her" He said as he tried to walk in.
"Don't we all uncle Bill" I said as I immediately got ready to close the door if he moved any closer.
"Just call me Bill" Bill snapped growing slightly annoyed with me as time went on.
"Well Bill" I said mockingly "I need to go soon so thanks for stopping by" I said as I closed the door, but before I could shut it completely his shoe came out of nowhere and stopped it. His fingers eerily crawled around the door as he quickly opened it and came inside.
"I don't want Ben to be alone, so i'll stay here" Bill offered as he took off his coat. Behind me Chloe awkwardly coughed which got Bill's attention.
"Yea um already got that covered" She said shyly as she started to walk backwards toward Ben's room.
"Well I am family" Bill said stepping forward causing me to involuntarily taking a step back.
"I think Ben has had enough of you" I said strongly irritated that my hands were shaking behind my back.
"And why would you say that?" Bill asked taking another step forward leaving me nowhere to go except for the wall that was already pressing against my back. His hand coming towards my head made me flinch. Unwanted memories came flooding back. Everything from the abusive hands all the way to unwanted touching. He did everything and no one knew. Ever since the car accident with dad he got worse. Just as he laid a finger on the top of my head there was some knocking on the door.
"Hey Taylor!", the person yelled, "Can you open the door I forgot my keys again"
"Mom" I said to myself.
"Shit", he whispered as he realized what was going to happen. Immediately his face gets close to mine as he threatens me, "If you say anything she gets hurt." I slightly cower into the shadows by his sudden movement, but I agreed to his command. He quickly walked over to the door, opened it, and greeted my mother as if nothing had happen. The smile on his face showed no signs of the true darkness he hid. After a minute or two of happily talking to Bill my mom seemed to just realized that I was here.
"Oh, Taylor aren't you supposed to be on your date?", she asked confused by my presence.
"Yea. I'm just waiting for Nate", I awkwardly say as I lean my weight into the wall.
"Oh honey, I thought you were going to be gone earlier. That's why Bill is here", she said as took off her jacket and put it in the closet next to her.
"Well Nate isn't here so i'm going to check on Ben", I say as I hurry into the room that Ben and Chloe were currently in. As I creaked the door open I saw them sitting on the floor staring up onto the T.V. I quietly chuckle to myself as I look at the situation in front of me forgetting about what had just happened. I must have been so focused on them that I didn't realized someone was behind me until I felt a slight breath on my neck.
"Boo" they whispered into my ear as they got closer. The shriek that escaped my lips was not something that anyone was expecting. Ben and Chloe immediately turned their attention towards the source of the sound only to be befuddled by the sight they saw in front of them. Mom and Bill came in shortly after. Bill? Wasn't he the one who was behind me? When I turned around to the see the true identity of the person I saw Nate. Blush instantly formed on my cheeks as I stuttered out some apologies. Nate laughed it off and said that we had to hurry before the movie started. I said my goodbyes before running out of the house and into the car with Nate.
The first few minutes of the car ride was painfully awkward. There was a heavy silence that seemed to blanket us. It wasn't too long before Nate uncomfortably cleared his throat and tried to start up a conversation.
"Your dad seems nice" Nate polity said not realizing what his words meant. My gaze became dark as I emotionlessly responded "He's not my dad" itching to complete the sentence with 'and he never will'
"Then who was that?"
"My uncle"
"Where's your dad?" he pressed on oblivious to the fact that I was very uncomfortable with the questions that he was shooting at me.
"He's Dead" I bluntly answered.
"Oh" he softly said, but it seemed to be more for himself than me. That seemed to shut him I thought as I pensively looked out the window taking in all the scenery that kept moving. Too slow to be a blur, but to fast to paint a perfect picture. It wasn't quiet for that long afterwards because by then we were already there. I hesitantly opened the door of the car and walked out. A cold wind slapped my unexpected face. I shrank into my jacket despising how exposed my skin was towards the frigid weather. While the walk towards the theater was short it was also cruel. The moment we reached inside into the warmth I relaxed. While I thought fall and winter were beautiful seasons my body couldn't handle the cold.
"You ready?" Nate asked bringing me back to reality.
"Yea" I answered. We got into line, ordered tickets, as well as some popcorn before heading into the actual part of the theater where the movie would be shown. I didn't know what movie we were going to watch. All I knew was that it was some action movie. It probably even had a stereotypical male lead with a sad weak damsel in distress type of girl for the love interest. Pathetic I thought to myself. I was shaking my head to myself before catching something in the corner of my eye.
I turned to the side intrigued to see what had caught my attention. A few movies down stood a cute couple holding hands. Their smiles seemed to only be for each other as they gazed into each other's eyes. The guy protectively held onto her. Her beauty seemed to radiate off her, but she didn't have a rude aura around her at all. She was beautiful and seemed as nice as a nun. Anyone else would have thought they were adorable. I however was shocked to feel my heart fall into my stomach, a black hole seemed to open up and ate my feelings away. I didn't understand why. I have Nate there is absolutely no reason for me to feel jealous. So why did I? Maybe it was because they actually looked happy I thought to myself. I forced my gaze away as I tried to erase the image of Sam and his new girlfriend out of my mind.
