Two months later
A loud shriek filled the small apartment which Carmen shared with her best friend; who upon hearing the sound, ran into the bathroom in haste.
"Carmen what's wrong?" she asked, quickly walking to her. She turned her head and looked at her friend, unable to stop crying and unable to reply. When she got closer, Abby looked at what she held in her hand.
"Is that a home pregnancy kit?"
Carmen nodded her head.
"Is it positive?" she looked over and gasped, "Oh my God! You're pregnant?!"
Hearing her friend say those words caused more tears to flow as she fell onto the floor, placing her knees before her and wrapping her arms around. She continued to cry and cry.
"Was it James? Did he do this to you?" Abby asked, referring to Carmen's boyfriend.
"No, we never went that far."
"So it was someone else? Carm, how could you?!"
"I know. And I already feel terrible about it so please don't make me feel worse," she told her friend, wiping away a few tears. Abby's face softened as she wrapped her arms around her friend.
"I'm sorry, Carmen. But do you know who the guy is?"
She nodded and whispered his name into her ear.
Abby looked at her, visibly shocked. But when she recovered, she said:
"You need to let him know."

She stood by the ice rink, watching as the hockey team before her practiced vigorously. However, even though she tried to keep her eyes off him, number 23 was the only one she could focus on.
Throughout the practice, she couldn't keep herself from crying when she remembered the reason why she was there. And it was made even worse whenever he passed the side where they were watching.
"Carm, are you okay?" Abby asked, causing her to look in her direction.
"Yeah, just a little cold," she lied, returning to watching the practice.
"I told you to wear something warmer," she heard Abby mumble, causing her to smile slightly.
Not long after, the practice ended and they watched as the team skated off the ice. All except for the captain, whom they had come to see. The few people who were on the stands watching, left when the team did. Abby stood up and squeezed her arm affectionately.
"You can do it," she told her. Carmen nodded her head and smiled appreciatively before Abby left. She took in a deep breath and slowly walked down from where she was sitting, towards the rink, feeling her heart beating hard against her ribs.
The only sound she could hear as she walked was the sound of her heeled boots against the stairs as well as the sound of the hockey stick against the puck as he took slap shots at an empty net. She stood by the rink and watched him from the glass around the rink for a few minutes.
When he finally finished and turned around, he froze for a few moments before he smiled and skated towards her.
"I didn't know I still had fans," he said in a jocular tone. She smiled slightly before she watched him skate off the ice and walk towards him.
"So what's up? Everyone left but you," he said, his eyebrows drawing together in confusion. She breathed shakily as she looked up at him, feeling her hands reach for the string of her sling bag the way they always did when she was nervous.
"I have something to tell you." Her hands tightened around the leather.
"Okay."
There was a long silence between them before she finally said:
"I'm pregnant."
The hockey stick which he held, suddenly fell to the ground, causing a loud clink sound to surround them as the wood make contact with the concrete floor.
"Th-that's impossible," he said, slowly reaching down to pick up the stick. When he stood back up, she shook her head.
"It's true and you have to take responsibility-"
"But we didn't even do anyth-"
At his pause, she assumed that he had remembered what had happened at the party.
"That was you?" he finally asked. She slowly nodded, unable to speak.
"A-are you sure you're pregnant? Are you sure it's mine?"
"Why would I lie about something like this?"
He didn't say anything and only continued to stare at her.
