"so what're your plans for today?" yunho asks, stuffing a cream puff into his mouth.
changmin shrugs noncommittally and props his feet up on the desk.
a few seconds later, the librarian shuffles over and slaps his feet off the desk, and stuffs yunho's bag of cream puffs into his backpack at the same time.
yunho makes a face towards her back.
"but it's valentine's!"
"it's a stupid holiday," changmin mutters, slumping further in his chair, "it's made up by some stupid card company that just wants to earn more money from their stupid cards."
yunho sends changmin an amused glance.
"spend it with me," yunho suggests lightly, twirling a pen round his fingers.
changmin watches that pen practically fly through yunho's fingers and finds himself agreeing.
---
"so how's this gonna go?" changmin asks, genuinely curious.
"good question," yunho says, pointing his pinky at changmin's face. "all i got floating about in my head is chocolates."
"...that's it?" changmin asks flatly. "why are you my best friend?"
yunho grins, all white teeth and sparkly eyes, "because i am awesome and you love me!"
changmin rolls his eyes as yunho prances out of the school gates.
as they embark on their walk home, they pass by a family's bakery.
"hey," changmin says impulsively, "let's have cake."
"cake?" yunho asks, "yeah, sure, sounds as good as chocolate!"
"nothing's better than chocolate," changmin says pointedly, and yunho lets him have that one.
that's how they find themselves seated in a little corner in the homely bakery, a large slice of cake – chocolate – in between them. changmin cuts out a chunk with his fork and places it gently into his mouth.
yunho, on the other hand, doesn't care about gentleness. by the time the cake is half eaten, yunho's got a small rim of chocolate around his lips.
"you're so messy," changmin sighs, and instinctively grabs a napkin to wipe it off.
yunho simply smiles his thanks and continues digging in.
changmin finds himself blushing.
---
"let's not go home yet," yunho remarks, and drops his bag at the base of a large tree.
changmin sees nothing wrong with that idea, so he joins yunho at the base of the tree.
yunho slings an arm around changmin's shoulders and starts to hum a tune that changmin knows. so he joins in, and in no time, they're full-blown singing, the timbre of yunho's voice and the sharpness of changmin's blending together like paint in water.
as the last note resonates in the air around them, yunho lets out a chuckle and pulls changmin closer.
"that was good," yunho comments, tilting his head so his temple bounces against changmin's.
"mhm," is all changmin can say; yunho's just a little too close for comfort – but he can't bring himself to move away.
"hey," yunho says suddenly, and changmin jumps.
"why don't you have a girlfriend?"
"what?" changmin splutters.
"yeah," yunho continues, "i've been wondering that for the entire day today."
"why's it weird that i don't have a girlfriend?" changmin asks.
"cause i think you're perfect in every way possible," yunho replies, voice sweet and deep and it pierces changmin right in the center of his chest, ricocheting to hit his heart.
"um?" changmin says weakly.
"um nothing," yunho says, turning around to face him. changmin's eyes grow just a tad larger.
"you have really large eyes," yunho muses.
changmin blinks.
"and a really nice neck," yunho continues, lips curving into a half-smile.
changmin tries to look away, but his eyes refuse to budge.
then yunho proceeds to duck his head and nestle it along the curve of changmin's shoulder and the dip into his neck. the hand on his shoulder falls to the jut of his hip, and changmin experiences a sudden burst of tingles from the spot.
changmin swallows; his heart's tittering away in his chest cavity and he's not used to the feeling whatsoever.
yunho looks up; changmin glances down.
"you have this really shy smile on your face, you know," yunho informs him nicely.
changmin's fingers fly to his lips.
"i like it, it's cute," yunho says, and his eyes crinkle. "i don't get to see bashful changmin much."
changmin's heart decides to pamper yunho, and prods changmin's cheeks to make them red.
yunho beams.
---
yunho's hand is warm around his, and changmin is a walking pile of mush.
"good night," yunho murmurs, and changmin looks around.
oh, he's home. oh no, he's home.
"good night," he replies, and he's embarrassed to hear his voice sounding sad.
he doesn't even have to look up to know yunho's smiling widely.
"i'll see you tomorrow," yunho says, and nudges changmin's shoulder.
"mkay," changmin mumbles, and gives yunho a quick hug before darting into his house.
running up to his room, changmin falls onto his bed and flails for a good ten minutes.
---
the next morning, changmin leaves his house to find yunho on the doorstep, looking as sunny and cheerful as ever.
"good morning," yunho sings.
"what are you doing here?" changmin blurts.
"picking you up so we can walk to school together," yunho informs him, an eyebrow slightly raised.
"oh," changmin says smartly.
leaving changmin's doorstep, they head towards the direction of school.
changmin's hand feels oddly heavy by his side, between him and yunho.
yunho tuts.
and tangles his fingers with changmin's.
changmin has to bite his lip to prevent himself from gushing.
this is going to be a long day, he thinks to himself, a little giddy. agood long day.
