Caden paced the hospital waiting room forever it felt like. Becca's accident was hours ago, why haven't the doctors came out yet?
He called Becca's dad and he got here right away with Milly attached to his side. Milly was dressed in her Hello Kitty pajamas rubbing sleep out of her eyes while gripping a stuffed animal frog.
"How did this happen?" Becca's dad wasn't angry but looked broken. "She said she was meeting with her friends."
"She was sir, but she didn't see the car coming and was hit by it. She was rushed here. Lana here," Caden gestured to the crying girl sitting a few seats away, "was in the car. She feels terrible."
Rebecca's dad rubbed his temples. "I promised her mom I'd take care of her. I didn't keep the promise."
Ending the conversation, her dad led Milly to a seat then scooped her up in his arms, and sat down.
It was hours of waiting patiently that finally a doctor came out calling for Rebecca Mariner.
