"Mrs. Melson, I need to see Kathy Campbell," our principle's voice filters through the intercom. She slowly gets out of the chair and walks out of class. She knows what's happening. So do I. My heart is pounding and my hands are shaking. Nerves wrack my body.

If Mrs. Melson knows what's going on she's doing a great job of hiding it. She continues teaching but I don't really pay attention. I hate this. It feels like every nerve in my body is hyper aware of everything. Every sound, every movement.

When the bell rings, I'm the first out of the Algebra classroom. I barrel down the hallway toward my locker and trade my book for World Geography.

"Good morning, Sara," Coach Cosper says as I walk in.

"Good morning," I fake a smile. On the inside is a turmoil of emotions. It feels like this beast threatening to rip me apart. Kathy still hasn't come back. So I'm all alone and out of the loop about the situation.

The bell rings for break and Kathy still hasn't come back yet. I nervously walk out of the World Geography classroom and past the office. My feels like it could fall out of my butt. There's a sheriff talking to the secretary.

I feel my heart pounding and my eyes tearing up as I walk into the gym. Is he going to be arrested? I walk into the bathroom and start to pace. My hands run through my hair repeatedly. Why would he be so stupid?

"Sara? Are you ok," Kathy asks behind me. I turn around and wrap her in a huge bear hug.

"Are you ok," I ask her, pulling away fro her to look at her.

"He was in the office. He's here," she sounds angry. "He ratted me out," there is fire in her eyes.

"Kyle ratted you out," I ask, shocked and outraged. Why would he rat her out?

"He was sitting in the office when I walked in. He just stared at me like he was surprised. And then when I walked out he looked desperate. He was looking for my tears," she grits her teeth.

"I'm sorry," I mumble. How could he be so stupid? Why would he sell her out?

By the time school is over my hair is a mess, I've run my hands through it so many times. My nails are chewed to the nubs. I look like a nervous wreck.

"Are you crazy," I ask Kyle as I see him getting into his truck. He looks up at me with tired eyes. The normal vibrancy in his perfect green eyes is gone. They're dull, like he's aged fifty years in eight hours.

"Did you get pulled into the office," he asks quietly.

"What? No. Why?" I ask confused.

"I just don't want you getting mixed into this," he says, running his hands through his gorgeous blonde hair.

"I'm already 'mixed into this'," I remind him. He's my boyfriend; Kathy's my best friend. There's no way I'm not going to try to pull them out of this mess.

"All this because of some stupid alcohol," he mutters, punching the side of his truck.

"Why did you take it from Harley if you knew he spiked it," I ask.

"Because I thought he was just joking around about it, like he usually is," he says.

"Couldn't you tell it tasted different?" I ask.

"Can we not do this here? I've got to get home," he says. I nod curtly.

"Your dad," I ask.

"He's gonna kill me," he says.

"It was a mistake. All people make mistakes," I exclaim.

"It doesn't matter. He said that if I screwed up one more time he'd send me to military school," my heart stops beating for what seems like eternity.
