It's been snowing for hours. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas should. The snow, the decorations, it's all gorgeous. But the best part of all is that for one day, all of the Mystic Falls drama doesn't matter. We all gather around in the Salvatore boarding house and trade presents, eating Christmas treats, and having a great time during the holidays.

"Do you need help," I ask Kai as he fumbles with wrapping a present for Jeremy.

"A little," he admits, running a hand through his hair. I smile and take the present from him, carefully creasing the edges and then folding the wrapping paper.

"Tape please," I mumble. He hands me a piece and I finish the present.

"Do you want hot chocolate," he asks as I put the present along with the others.

"Yes please," I tell him, stoking the fire.

When he finishes making the hot chocolate he comes back into the living room.

"You have to behave tomorrow," I tell him, slowly sipping the delicious drink. I grab a peppermint stick from the candy jar sitting on the table next to me and put it into the cup.

"I will. I'm not going to ruin Christmas for you," he says.

"You should enjoy it. Christmas is supposed to be fun," I tell him.

"It is," he asks.

"Of course it is. You get to be with your friends, your family," I tell him.

"I never really had fun Christmases," he tells me quietly. What?

"Why not?" I ask.

"Family drama," he mumbles absently. His jaw clenched slightly and he tightens his grip on the coffee mug in his hand.

"It doesn't have to be that way anymore. You have me. And the rest I our family," I say.

"My family? I killed most of them," he scoffs.

"The people you love who love you back, willingly," I tell him. I gently take his hand. I can't believe he's never had a single happy Christmas.

"I love you," he whispers, pulling me to his chest.

"I love you too," I tell him, wrapping my arms around his waist.

"Merry Christmas," I whisper, kissing Kai's cheek. He brushes me away mumbling about sleep. I continue kissing his cheek until he opens his eyes. "Good morning," I smile.

"It's so early," he whines.

"Come on," I can't help but feel giddy. This is the first Christmas I get to spend with the man I love.

"Just five more minutes babe," he tells me, brushing a piece of hair away from my face.

"Ok. Just five more," I tell him. He nods and puts his head back on the pillow. I quietly walk downstairs and start making breakfast.

When I'm almost done, Kai's arms wrap around my waist. "I thought you said 'only five more'," he kisses the top of my head.

"I figured I could let you sleep until breakfast was ready," I mumble, flipping the last pancake.

As we eat my excitement grows.

"Do you want to go outside," I ask. He looks at me like I'm crazy.

"Why? It's freezing."

"Have you never built a snowman? Or had a fool old snowball fight," I ask. He shakes his head. "Come on. Put on a lot more clothes. We're going to go outside," I say. He nods and helps me out up the dishes before he goes to change.

After we both put on a lot more layers of clothing I march Kai outside. I start making a snowball and he just stares at me, confused. "Just help me make this a little bigger. Then we'll make a snow man," I tell him.

"How do you make a snowman?" He asks, helping me pack the snow together.

"That's what I'm showing you," I tell him, continuing to pack the snow together. When the snowball is big enough I push it around the yard. Soon enough it's too big for me to push and Kai helps me get it back to where we started.

"Now we make another," I tell him. He quickly starts making a snowball and then starts pushing it around the yard.

"Is this big enough," he asks. I nod and help him lift it onto the base of the snowman. "Another one," he asks.

"Last one," I tell him. He makes the snowball incredibly fast and then he has to get a step stool to put the head on. "Now, we need a hat, a scarf, some carrots and some Oreos," I tell him. He runs inside and starts looking for the things I told him while I make several snowballs. I push them a little under the tree so he won't notice them when he comes back outside.

"Ok, I got it," he says, bringing the stuff outside. When he gets to the snowman I take the scarf from him and wrap it around the snowman's neck. And then I put the hat on him.

"Ready to make the snowman's face," I ask. He nods eagerly. "One of the carrots will be his nose," I tell him. He sticks the carrot into the snow and then looks at me expectantly.

"The Oreos are his eyes," I tell him. I smile as he tries to put the Oreos on, but they don't stay. "It's always best of you dig little indentions to put them in."

When we finish the snowman Kai stands, staring at it. Then, he gets hit with a snowball to the chest. He looks shocked before he hears me giggling.

"What was that," he asks.

"A snowball," I smile.

"You're going to pay for that," he tells me. My eyes widen and I hide behind the tree, launching snowballs wildly at Kai.

"We have to get up and go to Stefan's," I tell Kai. We've been lying in the bed for a long time.

"Take a shower. I'll be in there in a bit," he kisses my cheek. I wrap the sheets around me and walk into my closet, grabbing clothes for later. I quickly wash my hair and body and then shave.

When I get out I quickly get dressed so Kai can shower. After Kai is finished in the bathroom I dry and curl my hair. Then I carefully do my makeup.

When I'm done I walk out of the bathroom to see Kai struggling to carry all the presents to the car. I take several from him and open the door.

"Hey, Danielle. You have one last present," Stefan gestures for me to turn toward Kai. But he's down on one knee and is pulling out a velvet box from his pocket. Tears fill my eyes as he begins to speak.

"-Would you make me the happiest man in the world by marrying me?" I don't trust my voice, so I nod. And a ring is slid onto my finger as the people in the room around us begin to clap.

A/N Merry Christmas! Have a safe holiday. 🎄
