"Cynthia Stratton! Come see me right now!"
I wanted to cry. I'd been left with no friends when my best friends moved away. They had left me all alone. Now, everyone hates me. Everyone knows my crush, and I doubt he likes me. I'm the girl whose alone.
"Yes Mrs. Maybell." I said, hurrying to the teacher. She was strict, and everyone just accepted it.
"I heard from Erin, that you're thinking about suicide." she whispered, "Is this true?"
Well, considering everyone knew who I liked, I had no friends, and I was "weird", yeah.
"No ma'am." I told her. "I don't know where Erin got the idea."
"Cynthia, look. I understand you're having a hard time, so I've paired you up with a new syudent: Marvin Beyers. He just transfered here because of the same reason you're going through. Follow me." she stood up and started to walk down the hall, motioning me to follow.
"Maybe you'll be friends." she said.
"Sure." I whispered sarcastically.
She led me to the office and sitting in there was a brown haired boy with curious brown eyes. He didn't seem strong, but had that nerdy look. No glasses, but he just seemed like a nerd.
"Marvin, this is Cynthia. She will show you around the school. Your schedule mirrors her's so you'll be in every class together." then, she turned to me, "Show him around the school for the rest of the period.
Marvin stood up, sighing. "Hi." he said.
"Hello." I said back.
"Outcast?" he asked as soon as we had started walking.
"Yep." I confirmed.
He turned to me, his eyes staring into mine. "Same. Everyone knows who you like? Got no friends? Everyone seems to hate you?"
"Check, check, and check." I laughed, for the first time in a year.
He smiled. "Since no one else is going to care about us, wanna be friends?"
"Why not?" I chuckled.
Two outcasts, ready to face the world together.

"Thanks for the tour." Marvin said.
"No problem. Our next class in Language Arts, it's taught by Mr. Royer. He's nice, my favorite teacher. Teaches well, a bit strict. Just don't interrupt." I told him as the bell rang, "We don't need anything for his class."
We pushed through the crowded hall and forced our way to his room.
"Okay everyone. Please welcome Marvin." Mr. Royer said as we entered, "Please go sit next to Phillip and Chris." They both waved as Mr. Royer mentioned their names.
"Hey Nancy. Hi Josephine." I said to the two girls sitting next to me. Across from me at our circular tables was the popular of the populars, Carolyn. She was a mirror of me, except she had a better filter or something. Same hair color, brown, same eye color, green, an even the same skin tone: a bit tan, but not really.
"Good morning Cynthia." she said.
I nodded, "Good morning Carolyn."
Suddenly, a white beam of light shone through the windows.
"What the heck?" Mr. Royer exclaimed, "The sun shouldn't be that bright."
He walked over to the window, but before he could get there the room started to shake, the windows shattered, the door swung shut, and the lights flickered out.
We all screamed as the room shook, tossing us about the room.
"Welcome to the world of light and darkness. The land of the Lux and the Tenebris. Two ancient families, forever at war." a woman's voice boomed throughout the dark room, "Three of you have been selected to help our world." She paused for a minute, as if taking out a list of the names, "Cynthia Stratton, Carolyn Jeffers, and Marvin Beyers!"
Then, as if I was hit by a truck, I blacked out into a heavy sleep.
