Later that night

Ruby, Carson's mother, put of a bowl of mashed potatoes on the table making Nathan shriek in joy.

"Macy it's food! Actual food! Not that shit you make!" He cries out loud happily looking at all the food she had set on the table.

Macy gave him an irritated look.

Carson's dad sat across from her and she shifted uncomfortably. Ruby had said how impolite it would be if she just asked him to leave.

"So, Carson, what's new?" He asks suddenly interested with her.

She scoffed looking at him unbelievably. "Well for starters Last time you saw me I didn't have boobs so puberty happened dad. It's been a long 8 years coming but it finally happened 2 years after you decided never to call me again." She responded harshly. Ruby looked at her then down at her hands.

"Let's be honest you barley have any boobs now honey." Nathan mutters under his breath. Macy elbowed his ribcage forcefully.

"Well I'm sorry. And I promise I'll make up all that time." He looks down at his food awkwardly.

Ruby sat down at the table.

In came Travis who I had yet to meet. Carson stood up when she saw him. She rushed to him and hugged him. They caught up but I couldn't quite hear what they spoke about.

He walked over to me and I shook his hand. "Boyfriend?" Travis asks his deep husky voice scaring me.

Carson looks at me and shakes her head quickly. We look at each other. "It's complicated." We both say at the same time.

Travis sits down and soon enough everyone was sitting at one table.

"Carson, I know this really good therapist that we should visit tomorrow. She does well with young girls who are going through depression." Ruby explains.

I may have lied just a bit to make her let us into her home.

"I'm depressed?" Carson looks at me, I shrug softly looking away.

"It's nothing to be ashamed of!" My mother yells out.

"I'm not ashamed mother." I exclaim.

"Come on Carson. Chill out a little, stop being so uptight dude." Ruby says rubbing Carson's arm.

Travis let out a short laugh. "Mom will never change."

I have a feeling we're dealing with a hippie.

It all makes sense now.

The house smell.

The paintings.

The colorful plates and pans.

"Mom. Please don't call me dude." Carson sighs frustrated with her mother.

"Ahaha dude." Nathan laughs food in his mouth, you know the typical Nathan thing to do.

"I don't need to chill. I'm not uptight either mother." Carson stabbed her food angrily.

"You are a bit uptight." Nathan agrees continuing to eat his food sloppily.

"Carson, you stress to much. Worry what others may think of you, please just relax for a sec." Ruby shrugged, Macy watched her in awe.
