"Can you believe I'm turning 18 next week!" I exclaimed to Kiera, my best friend since practically birth. We were sitting in my bedroom, on Twitter and Facebook.

" I know! It's so exciting!" she replied, not really paying attention because she wouldn't stop tweeting Niall Horan.

"But I'm getting so old! Look is that a gray hair?!" I said as I stared into the mirror.

"No, no. You're just seeing things." she continued to tweet Niall. She was really determined to get him to follow her. "Come help me tweet!" she said.

"Okay, I'm coming." I grabbed my laptop and opened up my Twitter account. I had gotten so many Happy Birthday tweets from my followers. If only one of them was from Harry Styles. He was my favorite One Direction member. Kiera and I are huge One Direction fans, if you don't know already.

Just to tell you about myself, I have strawberry blonde hair, blue eyes, and I'm on the short side. I love One Direction, the color pink, and the Boston Bruins. I live in Boston, Massachusetts. I'm a city girl. My best friend Kiera lives right down the road from me. Kiera has long, brown hair, blue eyes, freckles, and is on the taller side. She also loves One Direction, the color blue, and Niall Horan. We have been best friends ever since we first met in Kindergarten. We both just graduated from high school this year and I'm really excited about college. It is summer time, July 14 to be exact. Kiera was staying with me because her parents were on a tropical vacation for the whole summer.

"Man, I've been trying so hard to get Niall to follow me, but he just won't!" Kiera complained.

"I bet he sees all of your tweets and gets freaked out. You know he doesn't like girls fan girling in front of him." I said.

"Yeah right, Lily. And technically it's not in front of him."

"Still. It's a little much. I know I wouldn't follow someone this desperate. I would think they were annoying."

"Thanks...." Kiera said, a little offended.

"Girls! Dinner is ready!" my mom yelled up the stairs.

"Coming!" I yelled back.

We ran downstairs and washed up for dinner. We were having tacos. Yes! My favorite. They were my favorite partly because they were Harry Styles favorite, but I still like them mostly because they taste awesome. My little sister, Eliza, came running down the stairs, and sat across from me.

"Did you get Harry to follow you yet?" she asked in excitement.

"No. I really want him to. It would be really cool if he direct chatted me! That would be awesome! And what if it was on my birthday! OMG!!!" I started freaking out just thinking about it.

"Yeah, and then Niall followed me, and then direct chatted me, and then friended me on Facebook, and then we would talk forever, and then he would want to meet me............." Kiera rambled on and on.

" Okay girls, stop fantasizing and start eating please." my mom cut Kiera off.

We finished eating, and then had dessert. My mom was being all weird during dessert because she kept looking around the kitchen, and mumbling to herself. I think Kiera and Eliza knew what was going on because they acted like she wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary.

When we finished dessert it was around eight o'clock so me and Kiera decided to go back up to my room and go on Twitter again. I had gotten like 10 more Happy Birthday tweets. Kiera went back to tweeting Niall some more. I got bored of Twitter, so I walked over to my piano and began to play and sing. Kiera loved it when I sang, especially One Direction songs. I sang Little Things for her, and then began taking requests.

It was getting close to Eliza's bedtime, so I crept down the hall into her room to see her sitting on the bed waiting for me.

"I've been waiting." she said to me as I came and sat next to her on the bed.

"I know, I know. Are you ready?" I asked her.

"Yeah, let me just get under the covers." she replied as she snuggled into the sheets. "Okay now I'm ready."

"Okay." and I began to sing to her, like I do every night when I can. It helps her get to sleep faster. When she was 4 my father was taken from us because of cancer. That night was awful for all of us, but especially for me. I still remember sitting beside his hospital bed, holding his hand, and praying to God that he would live. I sat there for a good half an hour, and we just talked. Then I felt his hand go limp, and the sound of the heart monitor turned to a long and endless high pitched sound. At first I just sat there, his lifeless hand in mine, and stared at him, not believing. Then reality hit me and I screamed and cried, not knowing what to do, or why this was happening. After that I was pulled from the room as doctors and nurses filed in. I was handed to my mother, who tried to comfort me, but that didn't help because she was crying too. And then there was Eliza sitting in the chair watching our father being wheeled out of the room and into another. Then she started crying. That night when we got back home we went straight to bed, no questions asked. I went into Eliza's room because I remembered that singing to myself always made me feel better. So I made up a song in my head, and began to sing to her:

Don't worry baby,

I'll always be here,

Hold onto my hand,

And I'll always be near.

Don't let all the pain,

Make you shed a tear,

Be strong and you will,

Never have a fear.

I sing that to her every night that I can because it fills the empty spaces that dad would have filled if he was still with us.

I finished singing the song, so I bent over, lightly kissed her forehead, and whispered, "I love you." and walked quietly out of the room. The high pitched sound of the monitor still rings through my ears today. It feels like it will never end. When I got back to my room me and Kiera decided to go to bed because it was getting pretty late.

"Good night Lily! See you in the morning!" Kiera whispered really loudly.

"Good night Kiera." I said through giggles. Then I slowly drifted off to sleep.
