CHARLIE'S POV:

****

Well. My escape plan failed before I could even put it in action. The wind cuts through my hair and it takes every ounce of self control not to beat the ground beneath me.

Or the metal. Since it's not really ground.

"Welcome aboard the Helicarrier."

Kim struts towards me, both green arms extended, "I know. It's incredible."

"We're flying. And it's not a plane. It's like a ship in the air," I say.

"That's because it is a ship in the air," Kim laughs, "apparently Fury used to prize these vessels."

"Why didn't he just marry them then?" I joke.

"Because he was married to his work," Kim says, straight faced.

I frown.

"I'm joking," Kim smiles, punching my shoulder, "lighten up, dude. Did they knock all the fun out of you at your compound?"

"What? They didn't at yours?" I ask.

"Nope. My compound was a base. We had a grand old time. Up until my Commander was killed by poisoned water. Not exactly the way you want to go," Kim says.

"Unfortunately I wish I could say the same about my Commander," I say.

"You say that until it happens. You don't realize how much you care about someone till' they're gone," she tells me.

We stand in silence for a few seconds until Kim says, "you gotta admit, the view is great though."

"Why are you here?" I wonder.

"You got me. Steve sent me to get you after the meeting and..."

"No," I face her. For a green teenager she's actually quite lovely. "Why are you here? Doing this Avengers thing? Seems a bit questionable."

Without hesitation she says, "because I want to help people. I want to stop Earth from becoming a fairytale. People will die if we don't help. My Dad is already dying. Those people, who don't have powers like us, need our help."

"You mean people like me," I correct, "I don't have powers."

"Every once in a while we need a good soldier," Kim says.

"It's almost worth it when you say it like that," I laugh.

"Charlie," she's being serious now, "it is worth it. This Pharaoh guy, we can take him down. We have a team. A team that can work together. There's only one Pharaoh. There's seven of us."

"You're seriously counting the six year old?" I smirk.

"She's tougher than you think."

Go figure.

"Not surprised. Everyone here seems to be confident in their powers," I say.
