I looked at the clock again. 1 a.m it read in bright lights from my phone. Still no call. I already was freaking out. Who were those guys? Why did Mom tell me to run? Is she okay? So many thoughts ran through my head in a jumbled and cluttered mess. I sat on the hood of my car waiting. I'd been waiting for 3 hours and it didn't feel right. My soul kept telling me to go back, but I wasn't sure I should listen to it.
Finally, I gave in around 1:15 a.m. I climbed back into my bug and headed back to town. I felt sick to my stomach and tried to prepare myself for whatever I might find. Though truly I didn't know what to expect. As I approached our neighborhood I checked to see if the van was gone. You never would have known they had been there. I pulled into the driveway then sprinted from my car. As I touched the doorknob the door fell in. A tightness clutched my chest.
"Mom?" I called in "Mom!" I walked into the hallway. Nothing, then I stepped in something. It was sticky and when I looked at it closely I wanted to throw up, it was blood. "Mom!" I called out again. Carefully, I walked into the front room. The entire place was wrecked. I heard a moan, "Rachel..."
"Mom!" I gasped as I saw her crumpled by some of the rubble that resembled what used to be our couch. She was bleeding badly. "Mom! What happened? Oh my god...We need to get you to a hospital..."
"No...time." She gasped.
"Mama," I felt a tear slide down my face
"Rachel, I don't have a lot of time so hear me out." She moaned again, "Those men were looking for you. You're very valuable Rachel and those demons will possibly kill you if they find you."
"Demons?" I asked. My mom shushed me and continued, "Rachel, your dad isn't dead. He never was. It was just easier to explain it that way when you were little. Your dad's name is Dean Winchester, Rachel, and you need to find him. He can keep you safe." She moaned again in pain, there was so much blood...
"Mom," I cried
"I love you my Angel. " She coughed, "There is a box upstairs at the top of your closet that has information about your dad and how you might be able to find him." I looked at my mom, and really saw how young she was. Only 33, she still had a full life ahead of her and this was all my fault.
"Mom, you're gonna be okay. We just need to get you out of here to the hospital.."
"It won't help honey," she grabbed my hand and put her cross necklace in it. "You will be okay. Everything ....is in the box. Its all so hard to explain-I should have told you sooner, I'm so sorry Angel." Mom's breath began to grow shallow and rapid. "I love you Rachel...." I watched as that final breath came and her eyes began to glaze over.
"Mom?" I said "MAMA!" I cried out. "No, no this isn't really happening, stop pretending..." Nothing happened at all. I leaned forward and rested my forehead on my mother's then gently kissed it like she had my entire life, tasting blood and sweat on her skin. Shakily, I got to my feet and looked around. Nothing was left, everything was ruined. I grabbed a picture frame from off the ground and took out the picture from the broken glass.
I ran down the hall and up the stairs to my room. I opened the closet door and grabbed as many clothes as I could. Reaching under my bed I pulled out a big, worn out, purple duffel bag. I stuffed as many things into it as I could manage. When I was packed I looked up into the top of my closet and saw a big cardboard box. Carefully I took it down and loaded all out to my car. I looked at the clock on the was 3 a.m. I was still crying and with shaky hands I picked up my phone and called 911.
I began to bawl again as I talked to the operator. Within a few minutes the police and ambulances showed up. People came out in the early morning air to see what was going on. As it all began to turn crazy, I gave my statement to the police officer. I told them where I had been, camping, which actually was a lie because no one would have believed me. Finally they said I could go as long as I had somewhere to stay. I told them that I was going to a grandparents out of state because that was my only family, which was again another lie. Then I got in my car and drove. I didn't know where I was going only that I could never go back. I had to find my dad, whoever he might be and I had to figure out what to do, but for now I just drove.
