Flashback:
I could say she was embarrassed that I proposed in front of so many people. But, I really wanted to. I really wanted to tell the whole world how madly in love we are, and how she is the reason for making my world colorful again. So, I did. In front of my whole family, I got on my one knee and asked her to be my wife, to be forever mine. I promised her that I will fill her life with happiness and excitement. I promised her that I will love her for the rest of my life. And I promised her that I will protect her and cherish her and make her every wish come true.
She looked at me surprised. I guess she didn't think I would do it tonight. But, what better day than my parents marriage anniversary? What Mom and Dad have between them defines marriage for me. And that is exactly what I wanted with Lia. The timing and occasion could not be anymore perfect.
Did I mention how gorgeous she looked tonight? She looked like an angel in this silver lehenga, with long sets of golden colored bangles. She had been dressing up in these Indian dresses at every chance she got, because I told her I loved to see her in them. She is so thoughtful that way. Actually, she is thoughtful is so many other ways. She knows my every wink and pout. She knows my every grin and laugh. She knew my moods, my passion, my anger, my happiness. There can be nobody who understands and loves me for all that I am and all that I am not.
Tears were rolling down her beautiful face. Happy tears. And only we both know how hard our journey has been. She held my hand and nodded yes. That was my cue to put the ring on her finger. The giant rock that would proudly mark her as mine. It was one of the finest moments of my life. The whole party was wildly excited. I knew that the loudest congratulations in the crowd were from my crazy sister and brother without even turning around. And I kiss her, looping my hand around her waist like a crazy, lovestruck fiancé that I was. I knew my folks were in the crowd but I figured they will understand.
As we walked down, holding hands, Mom and Dad were the first to congratulate us. Lia was strangely very shy. Come on baby, we have been living in sin, in the same house, since the last year. Then know what we have been upto! I shake my head. But, she is cute that way. I love this angel from the bottom of the heart. And it definitely is so comforting to see how much my family loves her. I mean my Dad loves her!!!! There is a lot to be said for that! And Mom had loved her since she was 12. She is Ria's best friend, Adi's adopted sister, Neal's nerd friend, Druv's playmate and favorite babysitter. What else can I ask for? She fits my life like a key fits a lock.
After the noise died down and we were dancing with each other, she looks at me with so much love in her eyes that I could not look away from her.
"Will you always love me, Nikki?" she asks moving along with me slowly.
"Yep. Always and forever." Yeah, I am cheesiest guy you have ever met, but I give a fuck. I would tell her that I love her how many ever times she wanted to hear it.
"You will never leave?"
"Not even if you kick me out." I assure her. But, I sigh, because I know there is something bothering her. "What is it? Get it out." I ask her.
"I am scared Nikki. I have never been this happy. I feel almost like I am cheating."
"Cheating who?"
"God. Like he is distracted with something temporarily and I am sneaking around and being happy in the mean time."
I laugh. "Well, baby, let's sneak around some more then. I am kind of a pro at it." I roll her out of my arms and she comes back rolling back against me giggling. I love her body against mine. She cannot fit in my arms anymore perfectly.
