The sun began the slowly shine through the bedroom window, slowly waking up Canaan. He moaned as he turned over to look at the clock on his nightstand, it read 6:45 am. He began to slowly sit up and rub the sleep from his eyes, he looks over to see his beautiful wife Mariah still asleep on the other side of the bed. Her soft lips curled in a small smile, her long brown hair was tied back into a ponytail and she was dressed in a tank top and shorts. However, even though she laid under the covers, Canaan could tell her stomach was getting bigger as her pregnancy was nearing the last month.
He quietly stepped out of bed and put on some sweat pants as he walked to the bathroom. He looked into the mirror at his face, his messy blonde hair that desperately needed to be cut and scruffy face made him look much a few years older. However his bright blue eyes were still full of life.
His thoughts started to drift as he looked at himself, he looked the age of a twenty-seven year old adult even though he stopped aging at twenty-five.
It had been eighteen years since he destroyed Matthew. Just at the age of eighteen years old, Canaan was thrown into the world of angels and demons at war with each other. That was where he found out that the life he lived was a sentence of a crime he did not commit, found out he had a beautiful wife and enemy that wanted him dead. After Matthew was destroyed, Canaan soon became father to twin girls named Catherine and Margaret.
Canaan was forced to become an adult in a year span even though he knew the responsibilities of adulthood when he received his memories back. Now eighteen years later, he would not take that year back.
He shook his head of the memories and quickly began his morning routine, once he finished showering and shaving, he stepped into the bedroom only to see Mariah was still asleep. He laughed silently and slowly walked out of their room.
The house was silent as he walked his way toward the kitchen, as he entered the room to his surprise, a brunette teenage girl was sitting at the kitchen table. She looked up with her beautiful light brown eyes and smiled, her white teeth shining. She was dressed up pink
flannel pajamas with a book in her hands, the spitting image of her mother. His beautiful daughter Margaret.
"Why are you up so early?" Canaan asked. "I figured you and your sister would sleep until closer until time to go to school time."
Margaret shook her head. "I was having strange dreams." She stated.
Canaan frowned at the statement. "Strange dreams?" He questioned.
"Yes." Margaret replied. "I dreamed of a blue orb of light in pure darkness. Usually blue means an angel, however this was something that was much darker. I could feel it, the darkness that came from this orb."
Canaan looked at her worried and sat down. "Did it say anything to you?" He asked.
She nodded. "It spoke my name, the voice was a woman's voice." She stated. "Then I felt hands on me, pulling me back toward the darkness. I screamed for this orb to help, but all I heard was a cackling of a demon. Dad, the darkness is growing stronger."
"Margaret, it was just a dream. The darkness is under control in you." Canaan stated.
Margaret had unique ability that not many angels are born with, she was born with the powers of taking the darkness out of people and placing back in them the light of the God. However, when Margaret was fifteen, the darkness consumed Margaret after helping a young girl in her class. For 3 months, Margaret was locked up until the darkness could be forced out of her and her sixteenth birthday, the darkness was vanquished from her body. The darkness was gone, but the mental torture it gave Margaret still burned into her mind; she always thought the darkness was going to come back and take over her body again.
Canaan ensured her as he kissed her forehead. "It will never come back."
Margaret nodded and stood up from her chair, walking toward the stairs to go to her bedroom.
Canaan cooked breakfast for the whole family and set it out on the dinner table, he sat down and began to eat as his family started to enter. Catherine took a seat next to her father, her long platinum blonde hair tied back into a messy bun with her black shorts and oversized grey t shirt. Her beautiful green eyes had black circles under them from where she had not slept well from the night before, she must have been getting visions while asleep. Catherine also had a unique power; she was able to see visions of the future, but also of the past. Her visions have saved the family countless times when in danger.
Her face was pale looking and her pale lips formed a frown as she looked at breakfast, clearly she was not really hungry but she still began to eat as well.
Margaret sat on the other said of Canaan, dressed in jeans and a tshirt. Her hair was also tied back into a bun, but her dark hair was wet from her showering.
Canaan cleared his throat, breaking the silence between his family members.
"So what does everybody have planned today?"
Catherine looked up at Canaan with pained look on her face.
"I wish it was sleeping instead of school." Catherine stated as looked back down at her food. Canaan met Mariah's puzzled look, wondering what was wrong with Catherine.
"I think I am actually going to try out for the softball team today." Margaret said.
Mariah smiled. "That is wonderful news Margaret." Mariah replied. "What about you Catherine? Will you try out for any teams this year?"
Catherine nodded. "Soccer team tryouts are today at 4:00 pm." She said coldly. "I think I want to be a goalkeeper."
Canaan smiled. "I think you both will be great at both sports." He stated proudly. "Only you two can accommodate the Heavenly powers and still maintain a regular human life."
"Thank you dad." Catherine said softly, smiling slightly as she picked at her food.
Both girls went to school in town where Canaan use to attend. It was Rose Lake High School, they were both in their senior year and was about to start the school year. Canaan was proud of them because he never had the chance to finish high school once he became an angel again; it was hard juggling football, school work, and the duties of an warrior angel. He was just happy that in ten short months, his daughters would be graduating and he would get to see them walk across the stage.
Eventually they all finished breakfast and the girls went on to school. While Mariah cleaned the house up, Canaan went to his office and sat behind his desk looking through paperwork of rogue angels that are wanted.
As he slowly went through it, his eyes spotted at familiar face, one that struck fear into his very core. The picture was of a man with shaggy black hair and deep red eyes, his face clean shaved with a evil crooked grin. It was his brother Matthew. He was frozen in fear as the files shook in his hands; he could not believe what was happening.
The files dropped to the desk with a loud thud, his face filled with fear. He yelled for Mariah and she quickly rushed to him.
"Canaan? Is everything alright?" She asked softly as she walked to the desk. However she suddenly stopped and looked down at the file as well. Her face filled fear and disbelief.
"Please tell me that is a really old file." She whispered.
Canaan shook his head. "No, it just appeared on my desk this morning." He stated. "He has escaped from Hell."
Terror filled Mariah's eyes as she looked at the file. She was scared of course, not only was the life her husband in danger, but now her children as well. She grabbed the file off the desk and threw it into the fireplace, hoping to burn away the fact that he was out in the world again.
"Mariah!" Canaan yelled as he jumped up from behind the desk and tried to retrieve the burning file, but it was to late as it quickly burned and disintegrated into a pile of ash.
She looked at him with a look of anger and hatred. "We are going to get the girls from school and we are leaving." She stated.
"Where will we go Mariah?" Canaan snapped. "You are due in a few weeks, the stress will bring the baby earlier then we expect and bring him into a world he is not prepared to be in. We cannot run from Matthew this time Mariah."
"By the Grace of God, yes we can!" Mariah screamed. "We can go back to Heaven and stay there until another person takes care of this situation! I cannot lose you and our children."
Canaan looked at her as the tears fell from Mariah's face due to frustration. He walked over to her and pulled her into his arms, the sobs racked her body as he held her in his arms. He knew that this was not going to be easy to defeat him again, but he had to destroy him.
"I will destroy him Mariah." Canaan whispered as he kissed the top of her head. "I promise that none of you will be harmed."
He just hoped he could keep that promise.
