That afternoon, the whole family sat around the table. Catherine and Margaret confused and stunned, not knowing what to say to their father and mother. Canaan knew they wouldn't fully understand what he had to do and they would be angry with him. He never really wanted to explain who Matthew was to his daughters and what he did because he was in the past and was suppose to be destroyed, but he was proven wrong and his family was in danger. It was time they knew the whole truth.
"Who is Matthew really?" Catherine asked.
Canaan cleared his throat. "Matthew is an very evil and intelligent demon, who by DNA is my brother." Canaan stated. "Matthew was one of the reason why I became The Fallen One, which I am recognized by today still. However, when I fell so did he because our DNA was bound together. We lived together for eighteen years as brothers before we both realized what happened. He became corrupt again after he received all of his memories of his past life back and attempted to kill your mother and I; he blamed us for him becoming a human, not the people who betrayed him. Eventually when he came after us, I thought I destroyed him and his body."
"You thought?" Margaret snapped.
"Watch your tone Margaret." Mariah growled.
"It is fine Mariah." Canaan stated. "They will understand everything eventually, we can't expect them to overnight. However, the problem is that he is back. We do not know what he looks like or what his plan is, we just know that he is coming for us."
"What happens if he finds us?" Margaret asked.
"Bad things." Mariah stated softly. "The last time we fought against him, he had no help. We are pretty sure if he is coming, he will be coming with other demons."
"Will we fight or are we going to run?" Catherine asked.
"Running is not the term I would say." Canaan stated jokingly. "More like we are taking our family vacation five months earlier then expected."
"For how long?" Margaret asked sadly.
"Until this resolved by another high ranking official." Canaan said. "Which he is on his way now to relieve your mother and I, he should be here soon. So what I need you both to do is pack your bags with two weeks worth of clothes and we will leave as soon as he arrives."
"What about our school? What will we do about school?" Catherine asked.
Canaan shook his head. "Explain to the school that we have an emergency and had to leave." He stated. "Once we get back, you can pick up where you left off and do your other after school activities."
Margaret and Catherine nodded as they looked at each other. However, the look changed on Catherine's face as she looked at her twin sister. Her face twisted with fright, her eyes widen.
"Catherine?" Margaret asked. "Are you okay?"
Suddenly, Catherine's eyes rolled back as she began to fall backwards. Canaan rushed over and grabbed her before she hit the floor, gently laying her down.
"I think she is having a vision." Margaret stated. "She only does that when she has a vision."
Canaan nodded. "We will just wait for her to wake up then." He claimed as he picked up off of the floor and preceded to carry her to her room.
"Catherine's Vision. "
Catherine opened her eyes and saw nothing but darkness. She could not see anything as she slowly stood up, not even seeing her hands in front of her. She started to walk slowly with her hands in front of, calling out into the darkness.
"Hello!" She screamed hoping somebody would answer.
"Hello Catherine." A deep male voice spoke behind her. She sharply turned around to see a red orb beginning to form in front of her as it floated in the air.
She stared at it with curiosity as she lifted her hand to touch it, however her hand went through it like mist. She felt the presence of darkness come from it, it surrounded her like it was trapping her and trying to gain her full attention.
"Who are you?" She asked.
The voice laughed at her. "Right now, I am just a vapor of a very old being." He stated. "I am over two thousand years old, but my body was destroyed. I am a soul."
"A soul?" Catherine asked. "Why are you in my head? I am nothing to you."
"You may think that young Catherine Hathaway, however you and your sister are very powerful and will prove useful to me." The voice claimed. "I am here to show you a future that cannot be altered."
"Then why show me!" Catherine cried.
"To show you that in the end of this war, I win." He whispered, but it echoed throughout.
Catherine's surrounding quickly changed and she stood in what looked like a prison cell. The hard stone floor could be felt through her shoes and a cold breeze made her shiver. From where she was standing, she was standing in a corner witnessing her vision play out. She could see her father as he was forced to his knees in front of a tall man. His blonde hair and face were dirty and bloodied, his hands shackled to the wall. The tall man had shaggy brown hair and looked to be in his late thirties, however his eyes were bright red. He was holding a gun to her father's head, but behind him stood Margaret. Her face was tear stained and dirty as her bright blue eyes filled with fear, her brunette hair caked with blood. In her hands though she held a small glass vial filled with bright blue liquid.
The man began to speak. "She will drink the liquid that is in that vial or I will kill you Canaan." He stated.
"You cannot kill me." Canaan sneered.
"I can kill your body like you did mine." The man stated. "Drink the liquid Margaret!"
"Do not do it Margaret!" Canaan screamed.
"Shut up!" The man screamed.
"Screw you Matthew!" Canaan yelled back. The man hit Canaan in the head with the end of the gun, knocking him the ground unconscious. Catherine screamed, but could not move from her spot. She watched as Matthew turned to Margaret, the gun still pointed at Canaan.
"If you do not drink it, I will kill him then force you to drink it." He threatened.
"You will never win." Margaret snapped. "You think you can just destroy me? My family will come for you. I will come back for you."
Matthew grinned darkly. "I will be waiting my dear." He stated. "However, you will not survive this. The darkness will consume you and destroy your soul, the perfect way to start a war with Canaan."
"It is a war you do not want." Margaret suggested.
"Drink it." Matthew sneered as he cocked the gun.
Catherine shook her head. "No no no." She stated as she tried to move to save her sister. "Do not do it Margaret! Please don't Margaret!"
However her screams and pleads failed to reach her sister ears as Margaret opened the vial and drank the bright blue liquid, quickly throwing the glass to the side.
Catherine's surroundings changed again as she fell to her knees, her face in her hands. The darkness surrounded her again with the bright red orb floated in front of her.
"You cannot save her Catherine." The voice said to her. "She will make the choice to save her family than her own life. Such a true Hathaway child, sacrificing her life to save another."
"I will save her." Catherine said as she lifted her face.
"No you won't." The voice claimed. "You would have to be awake to do that."
Catherine's eyes widened. "What did you do?"
The voice laughed. "I have locked you away in your mind." He stated. "You will not awaken until my plan is complete and Margaret is dead."
"No!" Catherine yelled as she stood up, tackling the orb but went right through it. She hit the ground hard.
"You cannot hurt me Catherine." The voice stated.
"Who are you?" Catherine sneered as she sat back up and turned around.
"Who do you think I am young Catherine?" The voice asked. "I am pretty sure you have heard stories of me and my treachery toward your father or did he keep you in the dark about mine and his dark past."
"Matthew." Catherine whispered as her breathe caught in her throat.
"Correct." The voice stated. "I am the demon that caused your parents to fear my return and fear for the family's safety. I have come back for my revenge."
"You will not win!" Catherine yelled.
"We will see about that." Matthew said. "Goodbye Catherine."
The orb disappeared quickly, leaving Catherine in the darkness of her mind.
