It has been hours since Canaan left his house to search for Matthew. He had not the slightest idea where to find him, but he knew that if he went back to where it all began he would be easily found by Matthew.
The house was just right outside the city that he once grew up in. It was small two story house, white with a black roof. The front porch wrapped around the house with a swing hanging in front of the grand window. The house was abandoned and had been for years, Canaan knew this was his parents home. It had been five years since he had been back to that place. When he decided to come back, he came into the house while his parents slept and wrote them a note, explaining that he never meant to leave them or hurt them in anyway. He wrote and laid it on the nightstand beside his mother, he walked out of their room and stayed in his bedroom for hours reminiscing about times with his parents.
However, that was five years ago and his parents moved out a week later of him leaving the note in the house. They gave up the search for him and his brother, moving on with their lives slowly but he gave them the closure they needed.
He walked up on to the porch, it creaking under his feet, and went through the front door. The house was dusty and empty, silence falling onto his ears. He walked up the stairs and to his old bedroom, to his surprise his bedroom remained intact. Nothing was disturbed, his bed still made up from his final day at his house, laptop remaining on the desk, even the picture frames and tv was still there slowly collecting dust. However, something laid on his bed. He walked over and looked down to see a piece of paper laying there with writing on it. He picked it up and began to read it.
Dear Canaan,
If you are reading this, then you have finally returned home. Back home where we raised you and took care of you. You grew up here along side your younger brother Matthew for many years. I remember when we looking for homes when I was pregnant with you, I saw this house and knew we had to have it because I could see you growing up here and running around the front yard. The day you and Matthew left, I was heartbroken and confused. I did not understand why you two left your father and I all of a sudden. However, now I do. As crazy as your note to us sounded, we believe you. I hope you are happy with your wife and your children, I bet you have grown to be a great man, husband and father. Let Matthew know we still love him greatly if you see him. As you have seen, we left your stuff like it was just in case you decided to come back. Have it and take great care of it. We love you Canaan, please don't think you cannot come see us. You know where to find us when you are ready.
Love, your mom.
P.S  we always believed you were special, we just did not realize that you were this special.
Tears slipped slowly down his face as he finished the letter. When he left the note five years ago, he spared no detail about what had happened and why he had to leave. He told them that he met the woman of his dreams and had beautiful children with her, accepting his role as an Warrior Angel. He thought his parents would think him crazy and that was why they left, but he assumptions were wrong.
He dropped the note back on the bed and sat down in the chair by his desk, waiting for Matthew to show up. He sat there for at least an hour until he heard a door open and close, he gripped the hilt of his sword and stood up walking over by the door. He pulled the sword out of the sheath and waited, the creaking of the stairs signaled that somebody was walking toward him. He raised the sword above his head and the footsteps came closer and closer, he prepared himself.
"Dad?" A teenage voice called out. The voice of a teenage girl who was slightly afraid. He could sense the tension in her voice, but he recognized the voice instantly. It was his daughter Margaret.
"Margaret?" He called out as he let the sword fall back to his side. A young girl brunette girl walked into the room, her light brown eyes relived at the sight of her father.
"Dad what are you doing?" She asked as she stood there in front of him.
"I am taking care of this problem." Canaan stated, putting his sword back into its sheath.
Margaret nodded. She walked past him and looked around, taking in her surroundings.
"Is this where you and Matthew use to live?" She asked.
Canaan looked at her confused. "Yes why?" He asked.
"I feel no darkness here." She stated. "Usually when I go places I at least fill a slight hint of darkness, but not here. There is no darkness, only light."
Canaan nodded. "Matthew and I had no clue who we really were when we lived in this house." He stated. "Our family was always a happy one, Matthew and I were best friends and our parents accepted everything we were and wanted to do. We had a good life here."
"Then why did it all of a sudden stop?" Margaret asked. "Your last happy day here was you and your brother playing cards with your parents then you woke up the next morning and went to school, that was when it stopped being a happy family."
Canaan was impressed. It was true that the morning he woke up and walked to school was the last happy day he had with his family. That day was when The rebellious angel turned demon attacked him and Mariah saved him. After that, he never saw his parents or talked to them again except that one night when he came to the house to give them the note and a proper goodbye.
Margaret's powers were growing stronger and she could start seeing when darkness overtook people or places, even what happened before the darkness overcame them. Even though she saves people from demons and other dark creatures that possessed them, she could see the good in them before the darkness took over.
Margaret grimaced slightly, almost as though she was in a lot of pain. Canaan walked swiftly over to her and stood in front of her.
"What is wrong Margaret?" Canaan asked concerned.
"Darkness." She stated as her eyes widened, her amulet began to glow as well as Canaan's. Signaling something was not right.
"Darkness, I can feel it." She stated. "I have never felt this much darkness before. It is here."
Canaan drew his sword once again and pointed it toward the door way. He pushed Margaret behind him as he waited for this darkness to appear.
"It is coming now." Margaret whispered.
Eventually, a tall teenage girl with long blonde hair with black underneath and deep red eyes appeared in the doorway. She was dressed in all black with a sword strapped to her side. Her facial expressions resembled Matthew, her wicked gleam and dark red eyes. Her thick eye makeup made her red eyes much brighter. An amulet hung from her neck as well, but instead of a blue color, it was bright red.
She stated straight at Canaan with her wicked smile.
"Hello Canaan." She stated softly.
"Who are you?" He asked keeping his sword up in defense.
The girl chuckled. "I would not be concerned with that fact Canaan." She stated. "You have other concerns right at the moment."
"What would that be?" Canaan snarled.
"Saving your precious daughter." She laughed evilly.
Before Canaan knew it, six demons appeared suddenly in the room. They all attacked at once, Canaan attacked them with his sword while Margaret stayed back. Eventually, Canaan was subdued and fell to the ground.
"Dad!" Margaret screamed. She tried to rush to him, but a demon came up behind her and grabbed her, pulling her back as he twisted her arms behind her.
Canaan was dragged to his feet and an arm wrapped around his neck as another hand wrapped itself around his wrist. He struggled, but he was weakened.
"I figured that would last a bit longer Canaan." The girl giggled. "Such a disappointment indeed."
"What do you want from me?" Canaan rasped.
The girl shook her head. "It was not you I wanted Canaan." She said as she pointed toward Margaret. "It was her I came for, you were just the icing on the cake. My master will surely appreciate me for bring you back to him."
"No!" Canaan yelled as he struggled. "Leave Margaret alone."
"To late." The girl said. "Boys, take them away!"
The demons dragged a struggling Canaan and Margaret down the stairs and outside to some cars. Margaret was placed in one car, but they waited before putting Canaan in one. The girl came out of the house and walked up to Canaan.
"Was this not your childhood home?" She asked.
"Why do you care?" Canaan snapped.
"Just answer the question Canaan." The girl stated. "If you do not, I will go over to that car and hurt Margaret."
Canaan nodded. "Yes it was." He hissed.
The girl smiled wickedly. "Good." She stated as she looked at the demons around her. "Burn it to the ground."
Canaan's eyes widened. "No!" Canaan yelled as he struggled furiously against the demon holding him. He watched as the demons lit torches and threw them at the house, it slowly engulfing in flames.
"I will kill you!" Canaan screamed as he continued to struggle. "I will kill you and you will rot in Hell for all of eternity you stupid-!"
The demon holding Canaan swung around and slammed Canaan's head against the car, rendering him unconscious. The girl looked at the demon with an angry look.
"You could have seriously injured him William!" She snapped
"Sorry Miss Cassandra." William said. "He was getting on my last nerve honestly."
Cassandra shook her head. "Just tie him up and put him in the back seat." She stated.
As the demon named William preceded with Cassandra's orders. Cassandra turned around and watched the house slowly burn to the ground, every memory and emotion along with the happiness and light began to fade away as the house slowly burned. She smiled wicked.
"Oh master." She said to herself. "This is just the beginning."
She eventually turned around and walked to the second car, driving away from the burning house that once held the happy memories of a family that was destroyed by Matthew and Canaan.
