Darkness was the only thing Canaan saw when he opened his eyes; all he really knew was darkness and the stone floor was cold. He lifted his head slowly and looked around to find a source of light, but none was found. He began to sit up when he noticed that he had shackles on his hands, he shook his head and sat up. He placed his hands forward looking for some type of wall, but could not find one around him.
He thought it was strange that he was in pure darkness, he placed his hands at his chest and found that his amulet was no longer there.
He sighed as he sat there for what seemed like hours to him, he had no clue where he was nor what time and day it was. The last thing he remembered was him being dragged out of his childhood home by a really strong demon that he could not break free from, he also remembered his daughter Margaret was there to. His eyes widened as he began to panic.
"Margaret?" He called out.
No answer.
"Margaret!" He shouted again.
Still no answer.
He began to struggle against his shackles as he continued to call out her name, begging her to answer. He felt his heart breaking as time when on, she did not answer back nor could he break free from his chains. However as he was about to give up, the sound of a door opening and light plunging into the room startled Canaan. He covered his eyes, allowing him time to adjust to the light. Once he looked up, he saw Margaret in the doorway with two demons beside her. She was dressed different though, she was in a thin white dress with no shoes or socks on, her hair flowed down her back and her amulet was also missing. However, her face had massive bruises. The site of her injured and bruised angered Canaan, he stood up quickly as Margaret walked into the room to stand right beside him.
The demons lit candles all around the room and quickly exited, locking the door behind them. Once they left, Margaret threw her arms around Canaan's neck and began to sob. He embraced her back, fighting back tears of his own.
"I thought they had killed you." Margaret sobbed. "I thought I would not see you again."
"It is okay Margaret." Canaan soothed her. "We will be fine."
"No we won't." She whispered softly through her sobs. "They said they have plans for me."
Canaan pulled away from her to look at her. "Do you know what plans baby?" He asked
She shook her head. "No I do not."
Before Canaan could speak, the door opened again and a man walked into the room. He was very tall with brown hair that was slightly spiked, his eyes growled a dark red and a wicked smile crept across his face. He wore a black button up shirt with jeans and black shoes. Two demons entered beside him that Canaan recognized quickly, the girl with blonde hair and bright red eyes, dressed in all black who resembled Matthew slightly, and the other was the demon that knocked him out. He was short, but slightly bulky with a white shirt, jeans and black shoes as well.
"Hello Canaan." The man in the middle stated. "And Margaret, we have already met."
"Who are you and want do you want?" Canaan sneered as he stepped in front of Margaret. However, his shackles would not let him go much further.
The middle man laughed. "I am wounded that you do not recognize me." He stated. "Well it actually does not surprise me since you destroyed my body eighteen years ago."
Canaan's eyes narrowed with anger. "Matthew."
Matthew nodded. "Yes." He stated. "And you have already met my two servants Cassandra and William."
Canaan refused to speak to him, but Matthew laughed at his silence.
"Are you really surprised Canaan?" Matthew asked as he stepped closer to him. "Did you really think destroying me was that simple? You have to do a lot better then that I am afraid."
Canaan brought his arm back to punch Matthew, however his shackles stopped him mid way. In frustration, he jerked at them in the same position to punch Matthew, but could not.
"Pathetic." William said deeply.
"Do not underestimate my brother William." Matthew stated as he continued to stare at Canaan. "He is more powerful then you think."
Matthew's attention shifted from Canaan to Margaret, who cowards behind Canaan. He suddenly grabbed her by the arm and dragged her to the opposite side of the room. Canaan struggled harder as he watched Matthew drag his daughter away from him.
"Leave her alone!" Canaan screamed. "If you hurt her, I'll make Hell look like a walk in the park when I am through with you!"
Matthew laughed darkly. "You should not be saying such things Canaan. Your child is standing right here." He laughed as he patted Margaret on her shoulder, who cringed at his touch. "Besides, you are a bit tied up at the moment."
Cassandra and William walked further into the room and closed the door behind them, the only light in the room was the candles. Matthew stepped into the middle of the room, leaving Margaret on one side and Canaan on the other. He pulled out a gun and pointed at Canaan, Margaret's eyes widened as the breath got caught in her chest.
"Now here is what is going to happen Canaan." Matthew stated. "Your daughter here is the one angel that was once tainted by the darkness that we demons possess but survived. I have heard of her in Hell and she managed to escape one of the most powerful demons. She is very special and I needed an angel who was once tainted by that powerful darkness."
"Why?" Canaan asked.
"For her to be a vessel to a very powerful being." Matthew stated.
Canaan's eyes widened. "No." He snarled.
Matthew placed his hand in his pocket and brought out a vial of bluish green glowing liquid. He walked over to Margaret and placed it in her hand, slowly backing away from her. Matthew began to speak again. "She will drink the liquid that is in that vial or I will kill you Canaan." He stated.
"You cannot kill me." Canaan sneered.
"I can kill your body like you did mine." Matthew stated. "Drink the liquid Margaret!"
"Do not do it Margaret!" Canaan screamed.
"Shut up!" Matthew screamed.
"Screw you Matthew!" Canaan yelled back. Matthew hit Canaan in the head with the end of the gun, knocking him the ground. Matthew turned to Margaret, the gun still pointed at Canaan.
"If you do not drink it, I will kill him then force you do drink it." He threatened.
"You will never win." Margaret snapped. "You think you can just destroy me? My family will come for you. I will come back for you."
Matthew grinned darkly. "I will be waiting my dear." He stated. "However, you will not survive this. The darkness will consume you and destroy your soul, the perfect way to start a war with Canaan."
"It is a war you do not want." Margaret suggested.
"Drink it." Matthew sneered
Margaret was torn about what to do, she wanted to save her father but then again she wanted to save herself as well. She stole a quick glance at her father, whose eyes begged her not to do it. She did not want to disobey her father, but she did not want to kill her father because she did not sacrifice herself for him.
"Dad I am sorry." Margaret stated sadly.
"Please do not do this Margaret." Canaan begged. "You do not know what it will do to you."
"Shut up!" Cassandra yelled as she kicked him in the side. He yelped pain as Cassandra continued to kick him, making Margaret jump with fear.
"Do not hurt him!" Margaret shouted.
Cassandra glared at Margaret, but Matthew lifted his hand at Cassandra signaling her to stop. He looked back Margaret.
"You are trying my patience child." He growled.
Margaret shook her head. "Do not hurt him."
"Drink the vial Margaret!" Matthew yelled.
Margaret quickly took the top off of the vial and drank the contents. It was a thick sludge that crept down the back of her throat, it made her want to gag but she kept it down. Once she finished, she dropped the vial and looked at her father.
"No Margaret!" Canaan screamed.
"I am sorry dad." She whispered.
"Why Margaret." Canaan asked. "You do not have to die for me."
"I know dad." Margaret stated. "But I wanted to save you, I love you so much dad."
Suddenly, a white hot pain went through Margaret's body forcing her to her knees. She grabbed her head as she began to scream in agony. The screams were very loud and clear as her body began to be consumed by a bright light. The light started out small in the middle of her chest, but began to grow as it formed a ball around her. The light become very bright to the point Canaan had to shut his eyes, however he continued to hear her screams. It broke his heart into a million pieces, she believed she had to sacrifice herself for him.
Eventually the screams died away and the light began to dim around her. He slowly opened up his eyes and quickly looked back at his daughter.
However, it was not his daughter kneeling in the floor. As the light completely went away, a young woman was revealed. Her hair was long dark brown, almost black, with very pale skin. She still had her hands clasping her head, revealing her sharp nails. She finally lifted her head, revealing a different face then Margaret's face. The woman looked about twenty-seven or twenty-eight with small pale lips and small face, her eyes an icy blue color. She was slim and pale, white dress and no shoes like Margaret was before.
The woman looked straight at Canaan then at Matthew, she began to shake with fear. She was confused and did not understand what was happening.
"Where am I?" The woman stated. "And who are you?"
Matthew smiled darkly. "In due time, I will tell you everything." He stated. "You have been asleep for almost 4,000 years and I know it is kind of a shock to take in all at once."
The woman looked straight at Canaan, her eyes studying him. To Canaan, she looked familiar however he could not think of her name or where he last saw her. A strange dread loomed over him as she stared straight at him, her look unchanged.
"Where is Margaret?" Canaan asked as he looked at Matthew. "What did you do with her?"
Matthew laughed. "She is gone my dear brother." He stated.
Canaan's heart dropped at the sound of that sentence. Tears of sadness and anger steamed down on his face as he stood.
"No, no." Canaan cried. "What have you done! You selfish bas-"
Cassandra punched him in the side of the face, resulting in Canaan falling to the stone cold floor. The woman jumped slightly as he hit the floor, she raised her hand.
"Stop." She stated, grabbing the attention of everyone in the room. Matthew looked at her then looked back at Cassandra.
"Do not touch him again Cassandra." He stated,
Cassandra's eyes widened and slowly stepped away from Canaan.
"Now take me where we can discuss what is going on." The woman said forcefully.
Matthew nodded. "Yes." He stated. "Cassandra, William, stand outside the door and make sure nobody gets in or out."
"Yes sir." They both said as they walked out of the room. Matthew stood by side the woman, who still looked upon Canaan. Canaan looked back at her, trying to figure out who she was.
"I have a message for you from your daughter Canaan." The woman stated. "She told me to tell you she was sorry and she loved you."
Canaan looked at her with disgust, refusing to speak to her. The woman shrugged her shoulders and walked out the door with Matthew, leaving Canaan in the room alone.
The silence echoed through his ears, he placed his head against the stone floor and began to sob softly. He was a fool to go out and take on Matthew, not knowing his daughter followed behind him. He should have stayed home with Mariah and Catherine, taking them away from this place and to safety, he could have saved Margaret.
Now, he was alone. Alone with the thoughts of what he could have done to save his daughter.
