Syzygy Aces

Chapter 3

We heard beatting of the drums, everyone  assembled back inside the arena. Fighters, mage, masters in elementals, knights and nobles all over the realm of Syzygy came together in this rare event where three celestial planets aligned to the realm's star, Vegaz. Every land had their best representatives to fight and some came over just to witness a great show. For us, this opportunity was an honor and we are the last hope and pride of our elders since our Master died. Decades ago, our land is greatly recognized because of our great masters and fighters. The royals always requested their services to guard them and the palace. Their services were rewarding for they had been known for their loyalty and courage...

My father was one of the knights to the King. He was killed protecting his majesty since one of the captain of the knights plotted to kill the king. Ever since, the king was still puzzled who really was the mastermind of his assassination.

For our generation, Maximus and I were the ones chosen to be trained by Master Fu. We were born with a distinct mark on our back as a sign of our fate. Maximus has a circular mark which made him an assassin. Mine was like a wing and it represent a mage.

As I waited for the announcement, I held with me the ring my father gave me that served as pendant of my necklace beneath my clothes. He said that it was my mother's. This was the only thing that reminded me of her.

"I just hope we're on the same team, Krish. I really do. We should stick together."

Maximus looked at me sincerely.

"I hope so too. You're the only one I can rely on." I replied with hope in my voice.

We sat back anxiously side by side waiting in vain for our fate.

I saw Reyn waved her hand at me. She really had a unique smile that made me feel at ease for a while.

I waved back at her. I saw different expressions on the faces of the crowd.

"I, Head Master Zeph will give you the teams and its member. Team 1 will have Maye, Myke, Ron, Lie, Etina, Lody, and Tatta."

We tried to hold our breaths as Master Zeph continued to announce the teams.

"For team 13... Voltai, Shay, Maximus, Jaxmi, Reyn, Xerxi and....Krish"

My eyes lightened because Reyn, Maximus and I were in the same team.

"This will be the best team ever!"

We arrived at the designated spot at the center of the arena.

The head master selected thirteen teams. Each would fight against each other. The last team standing would be named as champions for the year. They will be given a task and if they will succeed, they have a chance to join the guild named "Syzygy's Aces", which is the absolute grand prize.

Syzygy's Aces was a guild of reputable warriors in the realm. There were known to be an elite group that serves and protect the kingdom. Their abilities was unquestionable and their loyalty to the realm. To belong in the aces means a world to a fighter.

Our team was almost complete except for Xerxi. He did not show his face to us. We looked around the arena to find him but we could only see disappointed faces. Only thirteen teams were selected with 7 members. The rest will be waiting again for next year to be chosen. I was really lucky as well as the whole team to be chosen this year.

"Hi there!!!"

Someone spoke at the midst of us and appeared like a mist until a young pretty guy emerged from it.

We were amazed by his grand entrance that my mouth hanged open. I never met a scout before.
