Chapter 13

“Huh?! Don’t be ridiculous!” I laughed at him but deep down inside of me I was not so sure about whom I really was. I barely knew my father since he was always guarding the King and my mother abandoned me the day that I was born. Well, actually I just found out lately that my mother was trapped in the spirit world because of her love for me. The possibility that I was a noble was so rare but possible because everything I knew wasn't actually the whole truth. This possibility would just add to the mystery of my whole existence and this was just too much to me to bear for a moment.

“I was really intrigue by you Krish. Something tells me that you’re…special!” Prince Marve said sincerely.

Is Prince Marve was fond of me? Or he just found me weird? This is awkward.

I erased from my mind what he had said about nobility and stuff for a while and focused in the task at hand. I didn’t want to discuss with him the mere possibility. All I knew was a simple life with my Master Fu and Maximus even a part of me was empty until Master’s assassination leads us here. We had nowhere to go. Being a member of the guild would be our destiny. Thinking of Maximus gave me the courage to go on with this quest and to find the cure to the spell that the shadows casted on them.

The shadows gradually gathered towards the alley where the lights came from. They closed the passage as well as blocked the light that came from it. Prince Marve moved closer towards them without  any hesitation.

“Shadows that cast from the north, tell us the gift you seek for us to come forth”

The prince talked to them in strange poetic way. I didn’t know that we could communicate to them at all. A soft feminine voice that came from nowhere answered.

“A pinch of dust from a pure heart that one holds.”

Prince Marve stared at me meaningfully. My eyebrows met as I stared back at him and I gave him a shrug. “What?” I asked innocently.

“I believe you have what they want.” He said at last after a long pause.
I was confused at first but I remembered the small bottle that First Maiden Leanne gave me. Yes! It has golden dust inside. She told me that I would need it when the right time came.

What’s going on with my head that I couldn’t process on time? Or I was just too distracted by presence of Prince Marve? If Maximus would be here with us, he would definitely choke me to death for me to realize my stupidity. But how did Prince Marve know that I have what they want?

I searched the small bottle from the inner pocket of clothes. The golden dust glistened as I held it towards the shadow and a black fog covered my hand. A slight force caught the bottle out of my hand. The tiny cork that locked it sudden popped out and a pinched of golden dust flew in the air, spreading in different directions. It brightened the whole place and the shadows were gone. The bottle was dropped on the ground but half the dust was still there. I grabbed it and held it tight.

“We were now free from the darkness and thanks to you my dear child. Your pure heart was the only way to free us. It is only you who was born out of pure love. Even the nymphs have the golden dust, they can’t free us. Use the rest of the dust to free your friends. This place was now sacred as before. It was been tainted by dark forces when they came here centuries ago even though the “Syzygy Aces” eliminated them all. It leaves dark marks on us and we became visible black shadows. The darkness hindered the flow of good energy throughout this whole Island of Gumaras as well as the whole realm. We were not shadows as you called us but rather the Balance. We were invisible and we control the energy of everyone’s powers and grant those we saw worthy. Since we were cast here for a time being, the realm was now unstable. Impure energies had been scattered around and some of the people in this realm became greedy, selfish and impure. Be aware my child with whom you’re with now because I see darkness in his heart.”
