Chapter 1: Memories of the Past

“Long ago, in the land of Scandinavia, several gods were honored and worshipped. Some were hated, by god and mortal alike. Some were loved. Some were banished.

It is as written. The Ragnarok. The doom of the Germanic Gods. The day the world will end and start anew. Odin the king of the gods have calculated all measures.

The Gods prepared themselves of what to come. They had prepared for centuries for the ultimate battle.”

Odin, the mighty all-father of the gods, was  standing in a cliff, watching over the mighty ocean of Midgard. In his right hand, was Jormungand, Loki’s son. A child who had an angelic face, messy green hair, emotionless red slit eyes, bloody garbs of clothing and a golden chain in arms. The one destined to be killed by Thor, and kill Thor by poison.

Odin’s single eye looked at the child. “Child, you are strong. Having endured all the tortures I gave you.”

The child looked at Odin with absolute hate. Odin slapped the boy’s face. “You cannot transform to your monstrous form right now. Now, I will make sure you’d die.” Odin lifted the boy in his clothing and threw him towards the ocean. The boy made no scream, closed his eyes, waited for the impact of the ocean’s cold water.

He went to the water. The water was cold, He could see the fish. He’d die here without food.

He saw skeletons of Vikings swimming towards him, unbound him in his chains and swam back.

A gentle voice in his head said. “Jormungand, It is I, Hel, your sister. This is the only thing I could do for you. You could assume serpent form now.”

“Sister, did Odin punished you as well? What about Big Brother!?”

“I am sorry Jormungand. I cannot reach Fenrir. Odin has punished me indeed. I am sent to die here in Niffleheim, but it seemed to backfire on him. I have assumed superiority over the dead.”

“What could they be doing to Big Brother? If they hurt him, I swear…” Jormungand’s eyes glowed red, his skin became covered in scales. He elongated and elongated, until he was over three million feet long. He plunged deeper into the ocean, eating some whales and sharks in the process.

There in the ocean floor, he slithered, until he was already enveloping the whole globe, with his massive body. “From now on, I will be called as Midgarsorm, the Midgard Serpent!”

“Why will you change your name, brother?” Hel’s voice asked.

“Odin shall know that Jormungand died. So he will no longer pursue me. But who I’m really worried is big brother.”

“Me too, Jormungand, me too.”

The serpent opened his eyes from the dream of the memory he had. He was now very massive, he was coiled around the earth for many layers of his body. Green scales covered the depths of the sea. His massive head rose and saw a three human submarines are coming his way. Due to the darkness of the ocean floor, the humans cannot see Jormungand, but the serpent can see them pretty clearly. He opened his giant maw, and sucked in water. The human submarines plunged into the serpent’s giant mouth, their last sight, pink fleshy mouth and fangs the size of two elephant trunks combined.

“Insignificant mortals.” The serpent’s hate grew by day. Hate for his father, Loki, who hadn’t even talked or held him since his birth. Hate for Odin, the one who sent him in this horrid place. Hate for the mortals, who judges him because he is a giant serpent. Hate for all who dismissed him as dangerous.
