Kayla's eyes watered. If she could only hold on a bit longer- "HA! I wiiiiin!!!" Kayla blinked furiously and huffed while Cason danced happily on the bench. For the past hour they'd been playing games and this- the staring competition- brought them to a draw. "W-well what do we d-do now then?" Kayla pondered out loud. In the back of her mind, she was praying her brother wasn't home yet. She was hoping Cason couldn't tell though. Cason suddenly snapped his fingers, making Kayla jump. "I've got it! We can see who can jump further off the swings!" Kayla's eyes widened as she frantically shook her head. Cason chuckled, "It'll be fuuuun, come on!" and without waiting for a reply, he jumped up and ran to the swing set leaving Kayla behind.

Grumbling, Kayla got up and walked towards Cason as he started to swing. "Hey! No fair!" She whined and sped up, tumbling onto the swing. The good thing about this particular swing set was that it was on a run of sand that led up to the grass.

It must've looked a strange sight, the two laughing and swinging in an empty children's playground. Cason turned his head slightly and stuck his tongue out as he jumped. Kayla gaped as she saw him land just after the grass. "oh, I-it's on!" she laughed as she higher. She closed her eyes, let go of the swing and jumped. She let out a little squeal as she flew through the air, but it ended abruptly when she was greeted with a mouthful of sand.

She sat up slowly, her cheeks burning with embarrassment as Cason giggled at her. "Good try, but I win anyway." Kayla scowled playfully at him as he pulled a face and did a victory dance. He danced a lot, Kayla noticed. Strange. She brushed and out of hair as she asked, "Do y-you know w-what time it is?" Cason jogged over to the table to get his phone and showed Kayla the screen when she reached him.

Her eyes widened and she rushed to grab her bag, slinging it over her shoulders. "I h-have to g-go, b-but I had a l-lot of fun." She gave Cason a nervous smile and tugged down her sleeves. "B-bye Cason!" She looked down and walked away quickly, leaving Cason stood alone and looking confused. It was as she was nearing her home that dread settled in the pit of her stomach. If her brother was home, she would be in for a lot of trouble.

Kayla kicked off her shoes at the door, and dropped her bag as she rushed into the kitchen. She started heating up a pan, washing her hands and getting a steak out of the fridge. She covered it in oil, salt and pepper, the dropped it into the hot pan. She never used a spatula when doing steak, and this was the only time she had messed up. She hissed and drew her wrist away from the pan. She went to put her burn under cold water but a hand grabbed her instead.

It helped a little that the hand was cold but Kayla knew that this would possibly do more harm than good. She gulped and turned to look at her brother. His eyes scanned her face, probably looking for a reason to punish her, but luckily for Kayla, found none. He shoved her away, mumbling something under his breath. "Um, M-Monica was l-looking f-for you t-today." Kayla said as she plated up the steak.

Jacob grunted and sat on the couch. Kayla sighed and put the plate on the table with a knife and fork. "Y-your steak is on the t-table." Kayla glanced at him and smiled sadly as she walked up to her room. She decided it would be a good time to try and reconnect with her friends, she knew she hadn't been there for them lately. She took a deep breath and unlocked her phone.

Her hands trembled as she opened the group chat. She shakily typed out her message and pressed send. She could only hope they would understand. Hey guys, I know I haven't really talked to you much lately, but I am fine  I'd really like I if you didn't treat m any different and I hope you haven't lost my number: P Love you all ._.

She put down the phone and smiled to herself. She had had fun today and was trying to do good, it meant things were looking up right? Shaking her head, Kayla opened her computer and while it was loading up, changed into her long sleeved snoopy pyjamas. Resting her head against the headboard, she propped the laptop on her knees and opened her chat. She loved talking to her friend, and hoped he, or even she- wasn't mad at her for not talking sooner.

PaPeRaIrOpLaNeS: Hey, how has your day been? Sorry for not talking sooner, I actually went out today!

FLYINGuphigh: I've been good, I went out today as well! Did you have a nice time *wink wink nudge nudge*

PaPeRaIrOpLaNeS: I did indeedy, what about you? ( Also ive got that new Bieber song stuck in my head now -.- )

FLYINGuphigh: I did have fun, also – IS IT TOO LATE NOW TO SAY SOOOOORRRY

PaPeRaIrOpLaNeS: COZ I'M< MISSING MORE THAN JUSTA YOUR BOODDDDY XD

FLYINGuphigh: g8 now I feel like a blieber >_>

PaPeRaIrOpLaNeS: oh honey, it's bc you TOTES are

Kayla was startled by the buzzing of her phone, Macey was trying to facetime her. She frowned slightly.

PaPeRaIrOpLaNeS: give us a sec, phone

FLYINGuphigh: no go, it's fine! I'll just wait here! *wipes away tear*

Kayla rolled her eyes and answered Macey while moving the laptop to cross her legs. "Sup M-Mace?" Macey grinned as the image loaded and waved happily at Kayla. Kayla giggled and waved back. " Not much babe, I just wanted to say that I've missed you and that Monica b'tch can go suck one if she thinks that she's better than you." Kayla grinned. Yep, she'd definitely missed her friends. She just couldn't handle the pity stares.

"I love you Mace." Kayla smiled so much that her eyes closed and she tilted her head back. "God, I have missed talking to you." Macey smirked.

"That's good because there is no way in hell I'd let you leave me. Anyway, I have got to go, Mum wants me to help with Jojo. Byeeeeeeeeeee!!!"

Kayla smiled softly as ended the face time call. She loved Jojo, Macey's little sister. It had been a while since she'd seen her though, and it was nobody's fault but her own. She placed the laptop back on her crossed legs and went back on the chat.

PaPeRaIrOpLaNeS: Hey I is baaaack

FLYINGuphigh: good I almost got eaten by bear

PaPeRaIrOpLaNeS: ha ha very funny -.-

FLYINGuhigh: I know I am *smirks in Irish*

Kayla went to type a reply when the sudden bang of footsteps startled her. She quickly closed the laptop and pushed it under her pillow just as her door was throw open. She shuffled backwards slightly out of fear. "I won't be here tomorrow so I expect the house fully cleaned by time I do get back, understood?" and without waiting for an answer, stormed out and slammed the door shut so hard that Kayla swore her bed shook. She sighed and turned off the lamp, her friend would surely understand why she couldn't answer, and attempted to go to sleep.
