For some reason, sleep came easily to Kayla that night. Perhaps it was the fact she'd reconnected with Macey, or the fact she'd had a good day with Cason. But it was most likely the fact that her brother wasn't going to be home tomorrow. When the shrill ringing of her alarm woke her up at 6:40, her eyes fluttered open and a small smile graced her features. Today would be a good day she decided. After taking her time putting on her uniform in the cold, she trudged downstairs. Realising that she needn't make extra breakfast she grinned and made herself a bowl of cereal. And then another one for after but leaving the milk so it didn't go soggy.
After tossing her bag over shoulder and tugging her sleeves down, she half skipped and half tripped towards the bus stop. As it was only 7:15 she had time to get the bus, hoping that Carson wouldn't be at school early and looking for her. The bus screeched to a stop, startling Kayla out of her thoughts. Counting out £2.90 and handing it to the bus driver, she couldn't help but hum slightly under her breath. Thanking the driver, Kayla plopped down onto an ugly, cold and leather bus seat, blushing slightly when it made an unflattering noise.
She stared out the window in a daze and promised herself she would talk with her friends more today. The bus shuddered as it stopped and Kayla was thrown forward with a quiet 'Oompf!' Rubbing her nose slightly as two more kids boarded the bus, she gingerly pulled her phone out of her blazer pocket. Kayla furrowed her eyebrows as she saw Macey had linked her to something Clicking on it, she gasped faintly. It was a competition and you had to write a poem and the winning poem would be used as inspiration for a play. Grinning to herself, Kayla messaged back ' :0 ' and giggled softly.
A sudden creak of the seat made her jump and cringe as somebody sat next to her. "Hello! Hope you got home in time yesterday." She turned her head marginally and the corner of her mouth pulled up somewhat. "I d-did, t-thank you C-Cason." He grinned and nodded happily to her, his eyes holding a sense of glee making Kayla's fill with curiosity. "Guess what?! My drama group has been put in this thing where we get to act out a play based on a poem at the lowery! How good is that! Great right?" Kayla grinned back and nodded. "I'm en-entering th-the compet-tion t-t-t-" His eyes widened in understanding and an innocent look took over his features. "I hope you win so we can do yours." He stated. Cason actually thought Kayla had a HUUUUGE chance of winning after flicking through her book the day before.
The two sat in silence for the rest of the journey as Cason was busy texting somebody on his phone. Kayla tuned in to the many conversations being held around her. Some were talking about Bear Grylls: The island and others BGT. Having not watched any herself in a long time, Kayla didn't really understand anything. Suddenly, a huge wave of noise made its way up the bus, along with a water bomb filled with Lucozade. Kayla's good day turned a little bit worse as it hit Cason and splashed onto her. Ew. She felt really sorry for him as she could tell how sticky it was turning already.
Luckily though, the bus from Hell was pulling up at the school and the bus driver was informing the kids who threw it (by yelling. A lot.) that they were going to be put in isolation. Kayla gave a sympathetic smile to the grimacing Cason as she got off. "I'll see you later maybe." She mouthed to him as she passed the window. He gave her a small wave and sighed to himself. Damn.

Come break time, Kayla had been suffocated numerous times by her friends hugging her. They had all bombarded her with questions until Carly had given them all the stink eye. Macey was, unfortunately, not in but had sent assurances she would be there tomorrow. They talked, laughed and joked like old times until the bell went. As they all strolled to their next class, a lady from the head of the school approached Kayla. "Can you come with me please." She stated rather than asked in a monotone voice and started walking, not even checking to see if Kayla was following. Her friends gave her concerned looks which she returned with an over exaggerated gulp. They sniggered as they parted ways.
