We drove in silence, well KC and I did. Alyssa sat in the back seat talking away. She kept asking questions, although she knew I wasn't going to answer. Every now and then KC shot me a pleading glance and Alyssa would finally shut up. I shook my head no. I wasn't that mean. We knew what would keep her quiet now. KC turned to her in the back seat and looked at her hungrily. I was watching from the rear view mirror and tried not to laugh as she pushed herself farther back into the leather seat. I hit KC on the shoulder trying to keep him calm. His hungry expression wasn't all fake. He turned around his seat and lied his head down on the dashboard. We were only half an hour away. Thank god! At the red light, I turned around to glance at Alyssa. I let out a laugh. KC turned around and noticed she was sleeping. He growled quietly and banged his head on the dashboard. Although I wasn't a mind reader, I knew what he was thinking. Right now it would be so easy to jump back there and bite. I took one hand off the steering wheel and rubbed his back. He turned to look at me, his eyes burning with hunger.

I could understand how he felt. It was extremely hard going back to school. I felt like a kid in a candy store. My mom, on the other hand, had always been in control. Other vampires like us looked up to her as a role model. She had a successful career. She owned her own insurance company. She had to be around humans all the time.

Just as I pulled up to the familiar building, Alyssa woke up.

"Stella Shortt! Tell me where you are taking me!" She yelled.

I rolled my eyes, and gestured at the abandoned house. Acording to my mom, this was the house we all lived in before the incident... before we became vampires. The images from that night still rang clear in my head, but I refused to watch them. This was the place where I came after school and when I needed to get away from everything. This was where I grew up and no one dared to buy it. It was mine! I pushed open my door and walked to the old front door. The house was a light pink, two story house with a porch swing. The door was paneled with tiny, dirty windows. It had been two months and fourteen days, exactly, since I last came here. I dug through my cluttered purse and found the old key. I tried to fight back tears as I unlocked the door and went inside. I had totally forgot that KC and Alyssa were here. I rushed outside to see that Alyssa was refusing to come out of the car.

"Alyssa! Get in here!" I yelled. I hadn't realized how far back I parked.

She refused to since KC was there. I walked down the path to the house and grabbed KC by the hand and motioning him to go in the house. I stared at Alyssa hoping she would step out of the car and go inside. I motioned for the house once more. She shook her head no.

"No one is going to hurt you. Trust me." I assured her.

She slid out of the car. She always knew she could trust me. That's how our friendship worked. She walked ahead of me into the front door. Alyssa and I had been friends even before I was a vampire. She thought I was just going through a bad time when my dog died. Although, now it's not a secret of why I acted like that.

"I remember this place!" Alyssa squealed with excitment.

KC had turned around to look at me arching one eyebrow.
