A Painful Death

My eyes fluttered open. Someone was shining a light in my eyes. It was blinding. The light snapped off and I saw my mother's face. I'm alive? By now Alyssa would be changed and I won't see KC anymore. As if life couldn't get worse. My mom walked out of the room and muttered something like "you have ten minutes". I struggled to sit up, but I was too tired. I heard someone approaching, but I couldn't tell who it was. I hated being so confused. A hand touched mine and I instantly knew who it was. KC! I was dreaming. He wouldn't stay with me after knowing.

"How are you feeling?" He asked.

I had enough strength to sit up now. His face was worried. I couldn't make sense of it.

"KC? What are you still doing here? Where's Alyssa? Is she OK?" I felt like I was asking a million questions. Although I probably knew the answer to the last one.

"Alyssa is downstairs watching TV. She is absoulutely fine. And, why shouldn't I be here?"

"Because... now... you know that I'm not a true vampire. You saw me bleed and pass out."

He paused. Something was worrying him, but I knew he wouldn't tell me.

"What does that have to do with anything?" He asked.

"I didn't think you would want to... be with me if you knew. I guess I was wrong. What happened to," knowing he wouldn't know who Justin is I said "The male vampire?"

He paused again. Only this time it looked like he was trying to fight back tears.

"I grabbed the stake from your hand and killed him" His voice cracked on the word killed.

Something else popped into my. I never told my family that KC was a vampire. What happened there?

"Does my mother like you" I blurted out. I didn't mean to.

He laughed and nodded his head. I was glad.

"But, your step dad doesn't."

"Don't take that personally." I teased

The dizziness and tiredness wore off quickly. I realized I was sitting on the bed upstairs. I jumped down and stumbled. KC caught me though. He helped me walk down the stairs, which wasn't really necessary. When I got to the bottom of the stairs, Alyssa jumped up and hugged me. I was so happy she was still human! She stopped hugging me and filled me in on what I missed. Not much, other than the fact that she saw my boyfriend kill a vampire. Nothing weird there.

"So, what is your plan to defeat me?" KC asked

"Excuse me?!" I exclaimed.

My vision faded and opened again. I was in a dark basement tied to a chair with duct tape over my mouth. I realized that it had all been a dream. There was a tall figure standing before me. My eyes adjusted to the darkness and I saw his familiar face. Justin. The vampire who turned my family. He was a true vampire, which means he was born one... like KC. He was wearing a dark red cloak with his hands behind his back. He tapped his foot. It was getting really annoying.

I hissed at him and he backed up. The duct tape flew off my mouth. He obvilously didn't realize that my fangs had grown in since the last time he saw me.

"Will you stop tapping your freaking foot?!" I exclaimed.

He shook his head no. The pounding in my head was purely excruciating pain. I could barely think. Behind Justin I saw Alyssa tied up. Shit!

"Let go of her!" I screamed

He, again, shook his head no. All I knew now was that I had to get Alyssa out of here.

"It looks like you have found your charge." Justin paused to see if I would catch on. I didn't.

"Charge, as in I'm her guardian?" I asked.

He shook his head yes. Certain vampires that were created found a charge, whch meant they were born to be guardians. That explained so much. I never drank human blood, because I believe in saving them, not killing them. I survived of the blood of donaters. They were humans who donated a pint of blood to guardian vampires. My family is the same way except they steal theirs. They have the same beliefs of me, except the hospital won't treat them to their needs.

"I meant to turn you only, but then your family tried to save you and I had only two choices, kill hem or turn them. Arent you glad I chose option two?" he paused seeing if I woulld answer. I didn't. "But, the only way to keep you is kill your charge."

This was worse then her turning into a vampire. My mouth dropped open, but I quickly closed it. He stepped closer to me to twirl my hair with his finger. I turned my head quickly and bit off a chunk of his arms. He screamed in pain. Alyssa looked extremely frightened. While Justin was backed up against the wall screaming I used my fangs to tear through the rope. I looked around and saw that the stake was sitting on the wooden table. I ran and grabbed it. I launched myself at him and he quickly threw me against the wall. He threw me to the ground and hovered over me pinning my arms to the ground. I kicked my leg in his stomach. I didn't have full strength as a true vampire, but I had enough to make him stagger and fall through a glass table. I postioned the stake and hovered over him as he did to me. With all my strength I drove the stake under his ribs to the heart. I was suddenly hovering over a pile of ash. I walked over to the wooden work table. And sure enough there were scissors. I took them and walked over to Alyssa feeling exhausted. I sliced through the rope, but Alyssa just sat there terrified.
