Hiding Out

Silence filled the car as we drove to KC's apartment. I'd only been there once and that was when I was babysitting his little sister. Alyssa had totally passed out in the back seat, and so hadCheyenne, my psychotic sister turned good. This gave me a perfect opportunity to start a conversation with KC.

"I'm really sorry" I apologized

"For what? You have nothing to be sorry about"

"Justin, getting us captured... everything. I just thought... I just thought you would hate me..." I stuttered

"Stella, nothing in this world can make me hate you"

I couldn't help but smile. The idea of that shot warmth through me. I grabbed his free hand as we came to a red light and made him look me in the eyes. I was about to say "I love you" when Cheyenne woke up laughing. I turned back to her and she looked wide awake. I couldn't help but feel angry at her.

"What's so funny?" I asked, trying not to get pissed off.

"Nothing. It's just that I feel different now that I'm free from the curse. I feel new." She responded

We continued the drive to KC's apartment in silence. I fell asleep, and dreamed about KC and I. We were under the moonlight and his appearence made me awestruck. There were no need for words. We sat sat there and stared into each other's eyes. I got really mad when I was woken up, though. Cheyenne was repeating my name over and over. We had reached KC's apartment. I breathed a sigh of relief. I got out of the car and had to wake Alyssa up. When I did I had to help her walk. Whatever she did to save KC was still making her exhausted. We made it to the familiar room and I walked over to the couch and laid her down. Her black hair covered her face, but one scar still showed. Which reminded me. What happened to her? I would let her sleep before I asked questions. I looked around and, strangely, felt at home. His apartment wasn't huge, but it wasn't small either.

The couch was made of leather and there was a plasma TV hanging on the wall. There were two rooms, one for him and one for his sister. His parents lived in a nearby facility and occasionally came over. Their work put KC and Lily, his little sister, in danger. They are Stakers, like I plan to be. They kill the bad vampires, who roam the night and kill innocents. Us good vampires, live off of donated blood. We could go 3 months without human food, but can only go 3 days without blood. Which, also, reminded me.

"Ugh! I've gone three days without blood!" I screamed

"There's some in the fridge" KC offered

"No, I'm not taking you're blood. I'll run over to the store."

"It's fine, Stella. Plus, I don't think that you should go out in public"

"Why?" I asked

"Because you just killed a bad vampire leader. His other guards are going to want to kill you" Cheyenne jumped in.

She began twirling her platinum blond hair absentmindedly. I walked over to the kitchen counter where KC stood and rested my head on his shoulder. She went to go sit by Alyssa. She seemed fascinated by her. I know she saw what Alyssa did to KC, but if that was the case she would have made a comment by now.

"Did you just meet her, Stell?" Cheyenne asked

"You don't recognize her?" I asked bewildered

"Should I?"

"Yes! That's Alyssa. My best--"

"Alyssa? Alyssa." She whispered. "What happened to her? Why did she do this?"

"I don't know, but I intend to find out. She showed up for school like that, and I didn't know why she died her hair, and she wouldn't explain the scars on her face."

"Isn't it kind of obvious why Alyssa has scars on her face?"

"Why would it be obvious?" KC jumped in

"Because of the scars on her wrists. It looks like she ran out of room on her arm, so did messed up her face. Purposely." Cheyenne explained

I was frozen for a second or two before I thawed out and ran to the couch. I knelt down by the couch to examin Alyssa's wrists. It couldn't be true. Yet, it was. Sure enough, there were cuts running along her arms.

"Why?" I whispered.

A piece of my heart broke off. She knew how dangerous this was. What could of led her to this? I gestured for everyone to back up. I would question her later, now she needs to sleep.

"Can I borrow your phone?" I asked KC

"Yeah, of course. It's on the counter next to the car keys... Shit!" he yelled

"What?"

"Where's my car!?" He asked

I sighed irratated. Why would this matter right now?!

"Can we please worry about that later?"

"Yes." He sounded irratated too.

I walked over to the marble counter where his phone was. Just as I picked it up the front door swung open. I grabbed my stake on the table, where KC had put it. I stalked to the doorway just in time to see who it was. Lily. I should of put my stake down, but I didn't. Because, she was crying. I got down on my knees so that I could look straight in her eyes. I was about to ask what happened when she threw her arms around my neck and sobbed into my shoulder. I stroked her hair unable to think of what else to do.

Lily was like a sister to me. If anyone caused this then they were going to get a serious ass kicking. KC had ran over when he heard her cry. He hadn't done anything else, because who would know what to do? We didn't even know what had happened.

"Hey! Come out and play, Lily!" Said a boy through the door.

The boy was pounding on the door. I unwound her arms from my neck and walked over to the door. Lily was a shy sixth grader. Many knew KC was out of town, so, I'm guessing, that people were taking advantage of that. He was in mid knock when I opened the door.

"Well, hello beautiful. Do you want to come out and play?" asked the boy

"Sure." I answered in a sweet tone and stepped outside.

Ass kicking time!
