Kendall's POV

"Mom, I'm home!" I yelled as I walked into our crappy apartment. Me and my mom live in an apartment that is in the worst part of town.

As I wait for an answer, I realized she isn't home. Again. Actually, I can't really remember the last time she was home........

My name is Kendall Grey. I live in Boston with my mom and no one else. I go to probably the worst school in the district, and I absolutely hate it. I'm the nerd at the school.

I'm constantly picked on by the queen bee at our school, Kailey. Me and Kailey are total opposites. Kailey is head cheerleader, I'm just a loser behind the books. Kailey has the ability to get any guy to like her. Me? Haven't had a single boyfriend. Kailey has had so many friends, even I can't count. As for me? I only have one close friend, McKenna Graves. Yep, I know, pretty pathetic right? Anyways.... back to what I was saying....

My mom and I never really totally got along. Yeah, she loves me, but it's when I'm taking care of her when she's wasted after a huge party her "friends" had thrown. But other than that, me and her don't really talk at all. Me and her aren't really alike. She loves partying and never takes anything seriously. Me on the other hand, I'd rather stay home and just read a book. Don't take me wrong, I love going to parties, especially with McKenna, but I could never party as much as my mom.

On to the subject of me and McKenna... She and I grew up together. She's insanely pretty and I have no idea how she isn't one of the popular girls. McKenna's mom is exactly like my mom. I think that's why we understand each other so well. We live right across from each other in our apartment. She honestly is my close friend. Sure I have other friends, but no one can compare how close me and Kenna are. Thank God I have her. The only difference about me an her, is that she is a volleyball player. She's really good too. I think that's why she has some popularity and the fact that she's insanely pretty.

Anyways..... Here I am, on my couch, waiting for Kenna to get home. This is literally all I do when she's not with me or I sleep...........................

*****************************************************************************************

I woke up three hours later to my mom coming home from work.

"Kendall.. Get up!" she yelled.

"Whats up?"

"Kendall, listen to me and don't say anything unril I am finished. Got it?"

I just nodded in response. My mom usually doesn't have serious talks with me. Like ever.

"I need you to go to your room, and pack your things" she tells me.

"Why?"

"I was thinking that you know.... You haven't seen your dad in awhile, and I think it's for the best that you go on and visit for awhile".

"Yeah, I guess" I reply. "How long until I come back?"  I ask.

"I'm not sure" She says. Of course she knows. She's a horrible liar.

"Seriously, how long?" I ask.

"Honey, I understand this is difficult for you, but I need you to stay with your father for awhile ok?"

" Ok, but how long am I staying?"

"Promise no backing out?"

"Of course I promise mom"

"Maybe until... I don't know... Maybe a year or two?"

What a year? She just now tells me? And she tells me to pack my bags right now. How am I going to tell Kenna?

"Mom, I have a life here! I can't just leave" I reply back.

"Of course you can Honey. Time will go by quick. I promise."

"Fine, but where does he even live now?"

"Well, you see........." she started "He lives somewhere very popular....."

New York? Paris? Tokyo? My head was spinning with amazing places. I couldn't believe it!!! I've always wanted to get out of this place!

She finally said "Honey, he lives in Hollywood".

 My heart dropped.

"Hollywood? As in all the way on the west coast?"

"No, the other Hollywood." She said with sarcasm dripping from her voice.

"But.... What about Kenna?" I said.

"Honey, we're talking about McKenna, she's a volleyball player and she's gorgeous, I'm sure she will find someone else".

Find someone else? Is my mom crazy? That's what I don't want to happen!

"When am I leaving?" I asked.

"Tomorrow" she replied.

And this day keeps getting better and better. I can't leave tomorrow. As much as I would love to get out of Boston, I can't just leave!

"Mom, I can't leave tomorrow." I tell her.

"Of course you can honey. I would start packing now if I were you".

"But mom..." I whined.

"Quit whining and get packing!!!" she yelled from the kitchen.

"Yes ma'am" I replied.

As I start packing, I can't help but think how McKenna is going to react... This isn't going to end well...

A/N: Well.. I hope you like this book so far :) I know it isn't great or anything, but it's a start :P.. And too the right is a picture of McKenna Graves ------------------------------>
