Coralie's POV:

The few minutes I got to spend playing cat and mouse with Danny as our wolves was probably the only part of the night where I could enjoy myself. Running as my wolf empowered me.

Being wolf is like nothing else. Your human mind, the one you think with is always the first thing you sense, the first mind you think with- but to say you aren't your wolf isn't true either. I always refer to her as if she is someone else, but she really isn't. She isn't fully me either. That was how it was for all of us. The other being you are isn't all yours, almost as if it is a borrowed vessel. I always wonder if that other me is connected to someone else in another world. The elders say that existence is never ending, that you and your wolf (and any other souls you share in any other dimension) reunite in another plane when you die in this one, then you truly become one. Our ancestors say there is no heaven, or hell, only another realm of being. There your soul is truly free and meets with the souls of our ancestors and the ancestors of others. Great beasts; wolves, bears, elk, and many other powerful beings. There we are reunited, with no reason to feel anything but love and strength.

Yes we are one, but I believe wherever she is, when she isn't with me, she is much freer than I am in this human shell. The only person she answers to is Danny and his wolf. And even then she can grow agitated at his orders, if only when he orders us away.

We are both obedient and never let Danny hear a word of it, though; we always follow the rules of the Alpha, even when it infuriates us. We both wanted to seem strong and reliable, and that we had the pack in our bests interests. We hated that we couldn't be close to him though.

Tonight Danny gave me the order to follow left of his lead, all of us would keep the house to our left, circle around, and zig-zag across to cover all of the land; I was placed second from the center, I would be the second ring and Danny would be the seventh, and at least twenty miles ahead of me at any time. So basically, I couldn't be any farther away. I mean, I was between my father who had three legs and one eye, and my pregnant sister in law. I was offended, but I couldn't argue.

I tried to enjoy my run, and parts of it I did enjoy, but I wanted to go so much farther, I wanted to jump in the basins of the streams and over the nearby mountain, but with how close I had to remain to the house, I barely got to venture out of the central forest around my home. I felt like the other scouts were seeing me as a weakling, and that it would lead to the others thinking I'm incapable of being a leader. I was supposed to be Luna... At least eventually.

By the end of the night I had so much pent up energy that I did a few extra laps close to the house, just to get out some of it- After I asked of course. Danny said yes, but he stayed out later than me, and kept me inside of his protection. He remained far enough out to be ahead of me, and no where near me, but close enough to keep me reigned in. He didn't play with me, but remained serious, and alert.

When I finally changed back into my human form I was drenched in sweat. Everyone else had went home, and the sun would be up in twenty minutes. I ran through the last few miles of the forest as a human. I finally felt better, running naked through the forest has always been one of my favorite parts of changing. It felt right. Freeing. Like I was one with the earth. As sweat dewed over my body in small beads I breathed deeply, and calmly, my wolf genes propelling me forwards, my feet moving faster than any human could.

Before I shifted Danny said he'd be circling and would catch up. So I ran to my clothes at the tree line and slowed only when they were in view. I had my underwear on, and picked up my dress, when I heard his breath hitch behind me. I thought I had sensed him, but I didn't know he was so close. I looked over my shoulder and when his eyes remained fixed on me, black and powerful, I threw my dress on quickly. "Sorry." I swallowed hard. He shook his head. He was dressed, he must have been wolf till the last minute, threw his clothes on a few yards deeper in the forest.
